Issue #3January/2011

Hello and welcome to our first newsletter for 2011!  Due to the popularity of our webinar series focused on BizTalk governance using SO-Aware, we are expanding on that topic with this newsletter.  Read on to learn how to leverage SO-Aware for service governance with BizTalk as well as how to employ it with other Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server AppFabric and Windows Azure AppFabric.

Additionally, we often run into questions about why SO-Aware is better than UDDI for service governance.  We thought that it would be helpful to point you to all to that information here as well.

Most importantly, we want to thank you all for your tremendous response to SO-Aware so far.  2010 was a special year for us and we are looking forward to bringing you many more interesting and useful products in 2011.

Happy New Year!

Elizabeth

UDDI vs SO-Aware:  Why SO-Aware is the More Efficient and Interoperable Alternative

If you are implementing a service oriented architecture, and are unsure of the best governance approach to follow, then this webinar is a must-attend event for you.  We will discuss why SO-Aware is the more efficient and interoperable alternative to traditional UDDI-based SOA-governance.

Specifically, we will address the differences between UDDI and SO-Aware in terms of service discovery, configuration, and policy resolution.  Finally, we will address why the REST/Odata based model implemented by SO-Aware enables the most efficient governance not only for WCF but for BizTalk, the Windows Server AppFabric and the Windows Azure AppFabric as well.

SO-Aware at Microsoft TechReady

In February, we are presenting a session at Microsoft's TechReady internal conference that focuses on a lightweight model for managing and governing WCF solutions using SO-Aware.  The session covers topics such as service cataloging, service versioning, centralized configuration management, service testing, monitoring, Visual Studio integration and many others which are common requirements in real world WCF solutions.

We will focus on the patterns and techniques used to integrate SO-Aware with other Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server AppFabric, Windows Azure AppFabric or BizTalk Server. Additionally, the session will highlight how the REST/OData-based model implemented by SO-Aware presents a more efficient and interoperable alternative to the traditional UDDI-based SOA governance platforms.

The World Tour:  On the Go with SO-Aware

Tellago Studios' Chief Architect and co-founder Jesus Rodriguez begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting
presented a session on Agile SOA Governance at the 3rd SOA Symposium in Berlin.  The session highlighted SO-Aware as the means to address the fundamental challenges of traditional SOA governance through adopting a lighter model based on the principles of the Representational State Transfer (REST) and the Atom Publishing Protocol.

The SOA Symposium, which was held Oct 5-7 in Berlin, is the premier SOA conference in the world.  The symposium brings together more than 100 speakers ranging from vendors, analysts, customers and other thought leaders in the SOA world.  Tellago Studios' presence at this conference is recognition of the quality of SO-Aware as a revolutionary and game changing technology in the SOA governance space.

Shortly thereafter, Jesus presented at the Software Architect's conference in London.  So-Aware played a prominent role during his talk on Making WCF Simple.

Bringing it back to the US, Dwight Goins, Tellago's BizTalk and SOA practice lead, spoke about WCF management best practices using SO-Aware at Microsoft Integration Road Show events in Dallas and Houston in December.  Not content to sit still, he has already signed on for more events across the country in 2011.

Did You Know?

SO-Aware is implemented as a 100% RESTful API based on the OData standard

In a deliberate move to avoid the complexities of UDDI, we created SO-Aware with a 100% RESTful API that is based on the principles of Odata.  Among other things, this allows for querying the entire service registry using plain HTTP GETs.

The benefits of this approach over UDDI are discussed in the first article of Jesus Rodriguez's blog series:  Using a Service Registry that Doesn't Suck Part 1:  UDDI is Dead.    .

You can centralize Windows Azure AppFabric Service Bus configuration using SO-Aware

The Windows Azure platform AppFabric is a key component of Microsoft's cloud computing platform. Read Jesus's blog post on this subject to learn how SO-Aware enables developers to centralize the configuration of the Windows Azure AppFabric bindings and behaviors using the same model followed with other WCF artifacts.

The BizTalk Governance Using SO-Aware webinar is now available on video

We had such great response to our BizTalk Governance Using SO-Aware webinar that we have made a video of the subject available.  Please click here to learn about:

  • Monitoring BizTalk-hosted WCF services using SO-Aware
  • Testing BizTalk-hosted WCF services using SO-Aware

You can monitor WCF receive locations in BizTalk with SO-Aware

Do you leverage multiple WCF receive locations in your BizTalk implementations? This video addresses how you can utilize SO-Aware to more efficiently monitor your WCF receive locations: http://tellagostudios.com/monitoring-biztalk-wcf-receive-location-so-aware
