LOCAL TIPSTER
Sour Cream Bundt Cake

Serving breakfast one fall morning I was asked by the guests surveying the Sour Cream Streusel Bundt Cake if I knew the nutritional value of what I was serving.

It was a question I could not answer & it occurred to me that no one had ever asked that before. They told me of a software program they use to analyse the foods they eat.

 The nutritional software is from
I thought I'd pass it along to others who might be interested though with the Holidays coming up maybe this isn't the time to analyse the foods we eat.

LUMINARIAS FEATURED AT OUR   "OLD  FASHIONED  INN  CHRISTMAS"

Ice Luminarias

Celebrating 16 years of Christmas Tradition: Decorating gingerbread men in the Inn kitchen, Popcorn Stringing for the Inn tree & imbibing in Homemade Holiday Smorgasbord in the festively decorated Inn! This year I will demonstrate how to make Ice Luminarias using a mold imported from Minnesota which we sell. They last all winter outdoors, lighting the path to your front door.

Saturday November 26, 1-3 pm.

This tradition of opening the Inn has created quite a following with locals & guests alike, forming a loyal crowd. We've seen families grow from small children with wide eyes decorating gingerbread men to grown college students & even parents themselves, with the next generation of children seeking the magic of these Christmas traditions.  We invite you to bring your family!

On September 29th Door Co experienced a severe wind & rain storm while the wedding scheduled at Eagle Harbor Inn proceeded
with the only change being that the actual wedding was moved indoors. Dinner was served & the last morsel of cake eaten as the lights went out. In Ellison Bay & Gills Rock, the lights would be out for up to 5 days. We were luckier, though the Bride & Groom didn't feel so lucky at the time; now they have a tremendously memorable story to tell! Campers were relocating from Pen Park fearing trees falling & the park would remain closed for a week.

AT daybreak we were able to put out breakfast for our guests as we have a gas stove. Nedd was pouring drip coffee with boiled water in the dark as the stove heated up for the cherry cake. As the day proceeded we tried to reach the expected guests for this big fall weekend to tell them to stay home. Those we did not reach came in throughout the afternoon & by mid-afternoon all other hotels south with electricity had been taken by relocated guests, pushing them to Green Bay.  Our last guests arriving, whose son was marrying in the morning, decided to stay even without electricity & water! They joined the several couples who took the challenge & refused to leave!  For the two days & nights we all gathered strength & fellowship & for some, it turned out to be their best visit to DC in 15 years of coming! Historically this should not happen for another 60-100 years if this is something in which you think you'd like to partake.
