Farewell to Mary Hemmings
We would like to wish Hutchinson Historic Fox Theatre Executive Director Mary Hemmings a fond farewell and best wishes on her retirement. We owe Mary our heartfelt thanks for her dedication and hard work in maintaining and improving the Fox Theatre and for all of her help in making Downtown better. She has brought many great entertainers and shows to the Fox and also great movies in the beautiful theatre. Mary served as a board member of the Downtown Hutchinson Revitalization Partnership and brought a great deal of knowledge and wisdom to the meeting. |

DOWNTOWN GIFT CERTIFICATES
That was easy! That's what you'll say when you accept a Downtown Gift Certificate and are reimbursed for it electronically! Those of you who accepted Downtown Gift Cards in the past know how easy it was to be reimbursed for Gift Card purchases made at your store. The amount of the purchase(s) would be in your bank account the following Tuesday after a customer made a purchase. That same reimbursement method can be used with the new paper Downtown Gift Certificates. Give us a call when someone makes a purchase with a Downtown Gift Certificate and Jim will stop by to pick up the certificate(s) or you can bring them to the Downtown office at City Hall. If we have your written authorization on file, we will reimburse you electronically. This will save you time in cashing checks. Of course, if you prefer the old-fashioned way, we will be happy to reimburse you with a check. Downtown businesses who were on the Gift Card program should continue accepting Gift Cards too! Legally, gift cards are good for five years after they are issued. Call Carol Mitchell for more information. |

From the Director

What a busy and fun month May has been so far. We had a great night for the Main Street Hops and fabulous weather the next day for the Art Fair and Cinco de Mayo. There is a ton of activity going on up and down Main Street with building renovations, lofts being built, a parking garage being renovated and several new facades. We recently received approval to expend our grant funds at 300 North Main and work will start in July. This week a new store ('Till We Meet Again) opened at 306 N. Main in a building that Bob Ging saved from ruins and The Hutchinson Lofts will have their Open House showcasing the great work of New Beginnings in the former Grace Hospital at 720 North Main. Downtown Hutchinson is blessed to have such activity and investment from so many!
We are looking forward to Saturday, June 4th and the next Antique Appraisal Fair at Memorial Hall ,which will be filmed by KPTS Channel 8 for a 30 minute show this fall. It's not too late to get your tickets at the Fox Theater. All proceeds will help support future Downtown Projects. The next week we will welcome the Kansas High School Rodeo Finals and the Cushman Club, so downtown should be full of visitors. Be sure and be ready for them and make them welcome. June 16th is the annual Third Thursday Art Tour which is one of downtown's busiest nights. We encourage all to participate and take advantage of this great crowd.
July will bring HutchFest events, the Patriot's Parade on Monday the 4th of July, a special "Taste It Downtown" event on Thursday, July 14th, and then Third Thursday on July 21st! We encourage you to take advantage of this nighttime traffic with in-store specials, sidewalk sales or other creative marketing to gain new customers and awareness of your business.
To learn more about Downtown Events visit www.DowntownHutchinson.com or our Facebook page.
I hope you all have a great summer and look forward to our next couple of months!
A lot of dedicated people are working hard to make downtown a better place. If you are interested in helping or need more information about Downtown Hutchinson Kansas activities, events or volunteer opportunities, please call our office at 694-2677 or e-mail jims@hutchgov.com

ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE NEWS - Chair Victoria Crow

Almost overnight you will see a remarkable transformation in the Santa Fe District. Our pilot block (West side between 3rd and 4th Avenue) is scheduled to have various facades removed, buildings repaired, and cornices replicated to their original look. The major impact will occur in July with the facade removal from 305 and 307 N. Main. The repairs and cornice replacement will be a much slower process, but by early fall we should have a beautiful showcase in that block.
