From Director Jim Seitnater

2010 has come and is now almost gone.  To me it has been a year of great accomplishments and much struggle with a tough and challenging economy.  I admire all of you for your efforts and dedication to keep on keeping on!

With the first nacelle built in the new Hutchinson Siemens plant rolling out for delivery recently, I'm so excited for all that it means for our future.  I believe that Hutchinson's best days are just ahead of us and I can't wait to see all the good things for downtown and our community that are in store for us.

2010 will always be a special year for Downtown Hutchinson as we celebrated 25 years as a Kansas Main Street City and as the organization partnering with the City of Hutchinson in accomplishing over 53 Million Dollars of private and public investment into downtown buildings and businesses since 1985.

As we all know, it won't be easy, it never is, but with much resolve, great effort and our lasting commitment to making downtown better, each of us through our own energy and actions will make 2011 another great year and a building block to a bright future in Hutchinson, Kansas.

May you all have a wonderful Christmas season full of family and friends and a prosperous and rewarding New Year!

Watch our website www.downtownhutchinson.com for details on upcoming holiday events.   You can also follow our progress on Facebook and become a friend of Downtown Hutchinson.

Please be a good neighbor when it snows!

A property owner, proprietor or tenant in the Downtown District on Main Street from 7th Avenue to Avenue C, including one block east and one block west, is responsible to clear a path for pedestrian traffic clear of ice and snow on your sidewalks by 10 a.m., Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays), or as soon thereafter as the snowfall (or winter storm) ceases.

Ordinance #2009-34 was passed on December 15, 2010, to make it safer and easier for our customers, visitors and neighbors to do their business in Downtown Hutchinson during the winter.  Please do your part and be a good neighbor so that your neighbor will be one too or made responsible for their inaction.

ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE - Chair Victoria Crow
The Economic Restructuring Committee is diligently working on plans for 2011, of which new and ongoing funding sources takes the lead.  We are still encouraging and trying to provide support for loft housing.  Downtown Hutchinson is proud of the current loft housing pioneers and looks forward to many more.  Now if we can just continue the streetscape from 7th Avenue to the north and south to Carey Park.  Wouldn't that make a beautiful drive down Main Street?  Thank you for your support.  The ER Committee wishes you a successful New Year!

Lofts and More Tour

The "Lofts & More - Downtown Living" tour was held on Saturday, October 2, 2010.  Over 150 people met at "The W" for cinnamon rolls and coffee before beginning their self-guided trek to nine different downtown sites.

Many thanks to the residence owners who graciously allowed the public to take a peek at what can be done if someone desires to restore the upper floor spaces of downtown buildings.  Two of the featured living areas were on the ground floor in back of the business spaces.

The featured locations were above 201 South Main, 211 South Main, 114 West Sherman, 121 South Main, 119 South Main, and behind 306 North Main and 18 South Main.  From comments heard during the tour, there appears to be a growing interest in people wanting to live in the downtown area.  Questions were fielded about the availability of upstairs-apartment rentals.

Stay tuned for a future tour in downtown as more spaces now under construction become finished!  For information about living in Downtown Hutchinson, call the Downtown Hutchinson office at 620-694-2677.
