Worship

This is the final weekend of our summer worship schedule.  Pastor Bill Stewart will be with us this weekend to bring us a message about opening our eyes.

Next weekend, September 12 & 13, we return to our regular worship schedule of 5:00pm on Saturday and 8:30am & 11:00am on Sunday.  This will be a big weekend as we welcome Pastor John home from his sabbatical, begin Sunday School and start off with a worship series about worship.  In this series, we'll explore:
- what it means to be a church that "gathers"
- what it means to be a church that is immersed in the Word
- what it means to be a church that celebrates
- what it means to be a church that is sent

Peace Lutheran Prayer Vigil

"When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's house, have committed against you. " Nehemiah 1:4-6

You are invited to a prayer vigil and/or fast at Peace. Obviously the date is intentional as we pray and fast in remembrance of those lost, for Americans hurting and broken now, for the brave and courageous troops. We received letters from our mission partners. Honduras is in staggering chaos and violence, Togo is struggling with worse-than-normal flooding along with the grief from the murder of one of their Pastors, and India is again being rocked with persecutions while they struggle to continue in faith with new leadership. So with compassion, we come together, with faith in God, we cry out together, for each other.

We are told repeatedly through Scripture to pray and fast. We have planned a night of prayer, scripture reading; an intentional drawing together in Christ. The time is from 6:00pm to 11:00pm, if you can only be there for some of it, that's fine. If you already have plans/commitments, perhaps you can fast.

When: Friday September 11, 6:00pm-11:00pm
Where:  Peace Sanctuary
Clothing Drive - SW Virginia

United Lutheran Church in Crockett, VA (near Speedwell), is organizing a clothes closet to serve those in need in the Crockett/Speedwell area.  Items needed are:  winter coats, scarves, hats, mittens, boots, heavy-duty shoes, warm socks, winter leggings, and sweaters-and hangers.  These clothing items are needed for all ages-children through adults.

As you are preparing for the Winter season here in Charlottesville, please consider donating your gently used and/or "outgrown" items (listed above) to United.  There will be a collection box in the Narthex throughout the month of September and through October 15th where you may place your donations.  Look for additional information on our SW Virginia mission efforts in upcoming issues of Tidings of Peace, the E-Zine, and bulletin inserts.
