Easter People
|
"In October 2006, near Lancaster Pennsylvania, a man stormed an Amish
school and killed several girls. The day after the shootings, many
Amish people visited the shooter's family to say they had forgiven him.
That sort of forgiveness is incomprehensible to the world; because of
it, people have even accused the families of being bad parents, of not
dealing properly with their anger, of living in denial.
It is just this sort of love that is crazy to the world: true love, a kind found nowhere but through Christ." - Crazy Love by Francis Chan
Easter people recognize and experience God's crazy love. It's a no holds bar, high stacks, lay all your cards on the table and go all in kind of love. Crazy love goes beyond love your neighbor as yourself love to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you love.

Reading Buddies
|
Our Reading Buddies outreach with Hollymead Elementary School was a great success on a small scale this past school year. Twelve Peace members read and wrote for one half hour each week with a struggling reader. The first grade teachers report a significant impact on the motivation and achievement of the students who were mentored in this way.
We would like to grow the program this coming year, and so it would be very helpful to hear early in the summer from folks who might be interested in joining the effort. There is a very low time commitment, but a high return in satisfaction and positive impact. Please contact Ken Hymes if you would like to know more or if you want to just go ahead and sign up.
