Easter People
|
There was a man named Nicodemus who was a Pharisee and a Jewish leader. One night he went to Jesus and said, "Sir, we know that God has sent you to teach us. You could not work these miracles, unless God were with you." Jesus replied, "I tell you for certain that you must be born from above before you can see God's kingdom!" Nicodemus asked, "How can a grown man ever be born a second time?" - John 3:1-4
Easter people are called to be reborn. This is not usually
thought of as a comforting call. Following this call will probably require surrendering things like our will, our assumptions, our opinions, our privileges, our agendas, and our
reputation. Imagine how Nicodemus experienced this call to be reborn through his encounter with Jesus.
"When I first met Jesus I had been aware of his teachings and miracles for some time. I had made careful study and convinced myself that the miracles were real, not the imagination of adoring followers or the deception of a clever trickster. Moses commands us to follow the teaching of true prophet -- one whose miracles are genuine and whose teaching is orthodox. Therefore I came to Jesus planning to examine him. Yet it turned out completely differently. He literally took me apart." - Nicodemus Transformed by Ross Olson

| Annual Meeting & Sunday School Celebration |
This coming Sunday, May 17, is a busy one in the life of Peace.
At 9:45am we will hold our annual congregational meeting. The agenda will include:
- Ratifying the Constitution
- Explaining what changes go into effect with the new Constitution
- Discussing Leadership Council elections slated for the fall
- Updating the congregation on the state of our finances
After worship on that day, we invite you to come and celebrate the end of the Sunday School year with us at the potluck picnic. This will be the last day of Sunday School and we will celebrate with Ice Cream Sundaes, outdoor games and other activities. Bring a dish to share and dress for fun!

| United Lutheran Appeal |
The ULA is a program of the Virginia Synod, ELCA, which began in 1995 to address concerns raised by congregations about the growing number of separate synod-wide financial appeals from agencies and institutions affiliated with the Virginia Synod. This "United Way" approach enables congregations and individuals of the synod to learn about the ministries which are carried out in your behalf and to support these ministries with your prayers and financially. The nine agencies and institutions participating in the ULA are Caroline Furnace Camp and Retreat Center, Lutheran Family Services of Virginia, Chaplain Service of the Churches of Virginia, Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, Hungry Mother Lutheran Retreat Center, National Lutheran Home for the Aged, Lutheran Council of tidewater, Roanoke College and Virginia Lutheran Homes. Stories of these nine ministries have appeared in the monthly newsletter during the year.
This coming weekend of May 16 and 17th is United Lutheran Appeal weekend. A brochure and an offering envelope will be in the worship bulletin. Please review the information and support these ministries with a check made payable to Peace Lutheran Church with ULA in the memo line. For information contact Clif Anderson 973-2889 or clifanderson@embarqmail.com. |
IMPACT Celebration
|
|
Join participants from the other IMPACT congregations for a time of food and fellowship, to celebrate the movement we've gotten on the issue of affordable housing and to hear updates on other issues, to hear choirs from IMPACT congregations, and to allow individuals to make personal investments in IMPACT. This is a great opportunity to put "your treasure where your heart is".
