40 Days with the Lord's Prayer
|
Your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
"Naive though it may seem, one wonders how the world would change if politicians and diplomats, business leaders and economists, and all other powers that be would ask themselves three questions before making decisions that affect the lives of countless people: What does this have to do with justice? What does this have to do with loving kindness? What does this have to do with walking with God?" - Lenten Journey, day thirteen

Signposts of God's Love
|
As of today, we have collected 15 sweatpants and over 20 pairs of socks and underwear for SARA (Sexual Assault Resource Agency). The SARA staff is very appreciative of this donation and we are looking for other ways that we can be of service to SARA in the future. In the meantime, you might want to check out the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event on May 3.
Another charity we want to highlight during Lent and encourage donations to is the Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank. Our mission with the food bank is to help bring food to the tables of people and families in need throughout the year by sharing our bounty. Each month, Peace focuses on collecting items specifically requested by the Food Bank. During the month of March, the item is a Kroger Care Box. The care box is a set of pre-packaged food items that can be given to individuals and families requesting assistance. A list of other needed food items can be found here. There is a food basket in the lobby (narthex) at Peace for food donations.

Small Groups at Peace
|
At Peace we strive for authentic community. We encourage the development of faith friendships where we share the highs and lows of life and encourage one another in our faith journey. We invite individuals to participate in Small Groups or in a Discipleship Group (triads/quads) where people meet regularly for Bible study, prayer, friendship, care & support. Small groups meet at various locations and for various lengths of time. Some groups are long-term and some are short-term.
Here at Peace, we offer two different types of small group experiences:
- One type of small group experience is a short-term, 6-8 week small group "book club" based around several books highlighted by the Adult Discipleship Team. We intentionally chose resources from each "mark" of discipleship in order to allow people to step into a small group experience based on their passion and interest. (These resources are on the table in the Narthex.) These study groups will meet at a day and time chosen by the participants for a six to eight week period. We encourage you to stop by the table to look at the different small group opportunities, and then sign up!
- Another type of small group experience is our Discipleship Group Ministry - our triads/quads. Discipleship Group participants meet weekly with two to three other people for up to one year. These groups offer a more in-depth opportunity of a deep and rich experience of fellowship and spiritual growth. We are highlighting new Discipleship Group resources on the tables in the Narthex....as well as sign-up sheets for individuals looking to form new Discipleship Groups.
All of our small group experiences are designed to be interactive and allow participants to engage with God's Word (book and Bible study) and to practice sharing our faith openly and safely. Educating each other and learning together is a way to open us up to the transformative living Word and work of God in our lives.
