Questions
|
Who does our church belong to? Our church does not belong to the denomination, pastor, staff, leadership board, or members of the congregation. Our church belongs to Jesus Christ, its head. Our question then becomes: what does Jesus want our church to do?
Christ has no Body now but yours No hands, no feet on earth but yours Yours are the eyes through which he looks Compassion on the world Yours are the feet with which he walks To do good Yours are the hands with which he blesses All the world. ( read the complete reflection)

Sunday School changes during Advent!
Sunday December 14th & 21st, we will gather to celebrate the hope that calls to us during this Advent Season in a different way this year. Instead of our age-segregated Sunday School classes, we will celebrate through intergenerational programming. At 9:45 we will gather as a large group in the Sanctuary for song, prayers, and a focused learning time on the days lesson. We will then separate and go with our families to different parts of the building for extended discussions and activities. We have several "faith family guides" who will help lead the groups. This is a perfect way to step out of the busy-ness of the holiday season and, with your family and church friends, focus on the real reason for the season. This is truly for ALL ages - confirmation and senior high included. (If you feel your little ones are too small for this type interaction, Miss Cheryl and Miss Cheri will still be in the nursery for them!) We hope you will join us for this time together - if you would, please register using the green sheet inserts in the weekend bulletin so that we can have an accurate count of the families coming. Yummy snacks provided!

Leadership Council Update
|
Recently, it has become possible for churches in Virginia to incorporate. The Leadership Council is considering incorporating the church and may bring this forward for discussion and a possible vote at our December 7, 2008 called meeting as part of our agenda to vote on the Constitution. Incorporation could substantially limit the church's liability and may offer other advantages. At the request of council, council members Bill Eadie and Chuck Ward have made initial contact with an attorney who is proficient in incorporating churches. We are obtaining information on costs (estimated to be less than $3,000 for initial set up and $300/year to maintain the fees) and what additional changes would be needed to modify our new draft Constitution and Bylaws. If you have questions or need further information on this please contact either Bill or Chuck. Information will be placed outside the church office near the Council Meeting notes.
