Questions

Are we wired to know our creator?  Why do we go looking for love in all the wrong places? Is there something missing in our make-up that we are looking for to make us whole? Scientists have puzzled over this missing "it" that we're searching for.  B.F. Skinner thought it could be generated with behavior modification. Maslow put it at the top of his human needs hierarchy and labeled it self-transcendence. Sigmund Freud described it as our unconscious mind. All these explanations provide insight into this missing element, but none have thoroughly explained or fixed it.  Is Christ the way to fill the God-sized void in our life?

Hope Rising:  The Unexpected Gift
The Christmas Miracle Offering is an opportunity for us to stop and reflect on the incredible blessings we've received from God: all that we are, all that we have and most importantly, for the gift of God's son, Jesus.  This is the fourth year of the Christmas Miracle Offering at Peace and it has become an important part of our community's mission to "go in Christ" as we participate in God's mission to spread the gospel and demonstrate Christ's love in tangible ways: through financial support to those in desperate need and through the gift of direct service, giving of our time and talents.

The Christmas Miracle Offering ministry team solicited the names of potential recipients/organizations from the congregation, and was delighted to receive numerous suggestions.  Our goal this year is to provide an unexpected gift that will meet a need of two global and two local recipients:

The Bridge Ministry: for the purchase of tools for vocational training of the men who are getting their lives back on track after overcoming addictions so that they can find jobs and re-enter society as productive citizens.

Families in Need: Peace is encountering increased numbers of individuals who are struggling financially during these tough economic times with unemployment/under-employment and an inability to keep pace with rising food, health care, heating and gas prices. We will continue to partner with local organizations such as CARES and AIM who assist families in crisis but who are struggling to keep pace with community demand. We seek as well to offer help, encouragement and support to those in our own congregation who are facing particular challenges at this time.

Haiti: help for a children's orphanage suffering from food shortages due to recent natural disasters; as well as funds to cover the cost of surgery for some of Haiti's poorest and neediest people.

Orrisa, India: Assist our ministry partners of New Life Association/Advancing Native Missions who are delivering direct aid to Christian refugees who have seen their churches and homes burned and destroyed by Hindu extremists, with many Christians being brutally killed for their faith, and hundreds more fleeing for their lives.

We have been blessed to be a blessing. Prayerfully consider how you might honor God this Christmas by sacrificially giving so that others might experience the Miracle of Christ's love and salvation.
