Practicing the Faith
|
This weekend we will think, talk and learn about the feet of a servant, but this discipleship mark can not truly be understood until we've stepped out in service to others. What does that look like and what does it mean? Glen McDonald offers this clue, "Because of God's commands, I serve and give to Jesus and others a portion of my time, resources and energy even when I don't feel like it." There are lots of reasons we don't feel like it: fear, inertia, weariness, depression, pride, priorities and the list goes on. It's no wonder we struggle to take that first step into service. This weekend we'll hear faith stories about taking that first step and the next step.

Prayer Retreat It's a "prayer" vacation. We have the privilege of being able to use the beautiful facilities of the Blue Ridge Community Church in Ruckersville to get away (locally) for a time of refreshing our prayer lives. This event focuses on re-establishing a discipline of prayer.
This retreat will also allow us to explore other expressions of prayer, such as centering prayer, healing prayer, and the use of prayer beads and prayer shawls. Breaks will be provided to allow for private meditation and reflection, prayer journaling and even prayer doodling in the midst of the beautiful grounds of this facility. This experience is for everyone - men & woman, experienced prayers and those seeking to know more. Find more info in the Prayer Retreat Handout (pdf).
When: October 24, 6:00pm - 8:30pm & October 25, 9:00am - 4:00pm Where: Blue Ridge Community Church is located just off Rt. 29 at the Albemarle and Greene County lines, in a beautiful 20 acre park-like setting. Christmas Miracle Offering The Christmas Miracle Offering Team brings you Season's Greetings, but, you may be saying to yourself, it's too early to think about Christmas. Well we want to share with you how your generous support of the Christmas Miracle Offering in 2007 has brought love and encouragement to individuals and groups far and wide. Locally, the offering was used to provide new and safe playground equipment for the Salvation Army Childcare Center as well as providing money to heat homes this past winter. Globally, the offering was used to help build the Mercy Children Home in India and seeded the building fund for the Gerizim Mission Home in Honduras.
The mission of the Christmas Miracle Offering Team is to "Go in Christ": helping to spread the gospel and demonstrate Christ's love in tangible ways through the gifts of money, time and talent to external ministry organizations or individuals who are in desperate need of ministry support and who would consider the receipt of such an unexpected gift as a miracle from God and an answer to prayer.
This year, the Christmas Miracle Offering team is trying to be even more intentional about identifying the opportunities to make a "kingdom" impact - furthering God's mission on earth through the spread of the gospel and tangibly demonstrating Christ's love and service to those in desperate need. We need your help! Do you know of a ministry group, organization or individual that could use a Christmas Miracle? Please submit a Nomination form. The kind of information we'll be looking for is name of individual or organization, the specific need & estimated cost, and some words about why it would be a miracle.
Contact: Jenny Cudahy, cudahyj@msn.com or 760-5080 When: Nominations are due October 12.
