Talking the Bible, Having Words with God

We're continuing our series on the Bible. This weekend, we will focus further on the issue of interpreting the Bible, especially those troublesome verses.  Difficulties may arise when philosophical differences are presented, like those expressed in Romans 4:1-5 (justified by faith alone) compared to James 2:21-26  (justified by faith & deeds).  Other difficulties arise from texts that attribute acts of war, destruction and extermination as a response to God's will, like from our reading this coming weekend in Joshua 11:16-20.

So, what do you do with that text that troubles you? Does it become a stumbling block or worse yet, something that shuts down your spiritual growth?  Do you work through the text in prayer, by reading other parts of the Bible, by reading from other authors who have struggled with the text or by discussing it honestly and openly with others whom you respect and trust?  Can you allow yourself to find some comfort in the reality that not every question you encounter will be answered and not every issue you struggle with will be resolved in your lifetime?

Join us this weekend as we struggle with some of these texts together.

Prayer Hour
"Keep the joy of loving God in your heart and share this joy
with all you meet especially your family.
Be holy - let us pray."
- Mother Teresa

God created us for community, for sharing this joy.  One of the ways to keep the joy of loving God in our hearts is through prayer.  There are many ways to prayer; silently or aloud, alone or in community. At Peace, we also have many opportunities for prayer.

One of those opportunities is the Wednesday prayer hour.  All are welcome to drop in anytime from noon to 1pm for group prayer.  Come by yourself, come with someone, bring your lunch - just come as you are.  Stay a few minutes or stay an hour.  Drop in late or leave early.  A prayer leader will be present to facilitate this prayer time.

Yard & Bake Sale
A lot of hard work has been put into setting up the yard & bake sale.  There are some pretty interesting and unique items that have been donated as well as good old traditional yard sale fare.  There are even some amazing gift baskets created from this wide array of stuff.  So, don't forget to stop by the yard sale to find your own "treasure".
