Talking the Bible, Having Words with God
|
"Reading the Bible really can be hard work. There are people and places and stories of life issues told there that are just totally unfamiliar to the average reader today. But it can be surprisingly easy to read the Bible too. Sometimes, miraculously easy! Even in the beginning, you'll be reading along, and suddenly you'll get it." - No Experience Necessary by Kelly Fryer
That's the paradox of the Bible. It is this amazing collection of epic stories, poetry, laws, parables, lessons, revelations and more that, at times, can be intimidating. And yet, it is probably the most accessible book in history from picture Bibles for toddlers to scores of translations, print, audio and online versions, study guides, commentaries, reflections and devotions for all ages and cultures.
We hope you'll join us in the coming weeks as we talk the Bible and explore: - learning to be in the Word with God and with an open mind & heart, listening again for the first time - loving to be in the Word with God as an experience that we crave - living in the Word together, making decisions & acting on what we hear from God
Do you have questions about the Bible? We want to talk about them. You can submit them anonymously @ peacepods.blogspot.com or get them to Pastor John.

SonHarvest County Fair
|
It's kind of hard to miss, but in case you haven't heard, Vacation Bible School starts this Sunday. Every year this is an amazing event in the life of Peace and it just keeps getting better. The theme this year is SonHarvest County Fair and you can expect original music performed by the praise band and original skits performed by our own talented cast of characters plus as much fun and learning as we could pack into two and a half hours each night.
If you are serving at VBS, we thank you in advance. If you are attending VBS, we pray that this time is a blessing for you. If you are not currently involved in VBS, but find you need a pick-me-up sometime during the week, please come by and plug into this high energy community.

Signposts of God's Love

Honduras Mission team leaves Charlottesville on August 1st and returns on August 10th. Team Gerizim 2008 members include: Dr. Nancy, Eric, and Dan Schmitz; Barbara and Emily Gerding; David Gerding; David Poole; David Veliky; Terri Voight; Annie Peterson; RuthAnne Jenkins; Jack Jones; and, Helen Ida Moyer. Changes in itinerary have our group flying into San Pedro Sula and traveling through remote mountain terrain to the capital city of Tegucigalpa, then back again. This means that we will do our mission work in less familiar, more remote villages. Each trip proves to have its own unique challenges and opportunities. God provides. The members and friends of Peace who support us from home are essential to our mission. Ways to help: Donate any used, old, large (but not oversized) suitcases that you don't want to see again; Pray for us, our health and safety, our ability to transport medicines and distribute them, the care of the Honduran men, women, and children who we minister to; Volunteer to repack, count, and label medicines for travel; Support us as individual or team prayer partners. Contact Eric (962-8449) or Nancy (981-4301) Schmitz if you wish to help, contribute, or otherwise support this mission trip.
