Energy Grant Gained for Municipality
Navarro & Wright helped the Borough of Steelton land $250,000 worth of federal stimulus grant money for energy improvement projects at their Water Filtration Plant. As a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Pennsylvania offered $23.5 million for one-time grants, up to $250,000 per grant, for motivated local governments and non-profit entities with shovel-ready projects that would save or conserve a minimum of 25% of all energy used called PA Conservation Works.
A collaborative effort from Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, Inc., contractor, IEQ, Inc., and a grant writer from Community Networking Resources guided Steelton Water Authority through the process and helped identify substantial energy savings improvements at the plant which met the requirements to receive the full grant amount of $250,000. In addition to providing working capital for improvements, the grant will have a permanent payback of approximately $33,000 per year in anticipated energy savings. Read More... |

One Year Later...Recovery Act Boosts Transportation and N&W Projects
President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) into law on February 17, 2009. The Act provided a $787 billion stimulus for federal tax cuts, expansion of unemployment benefits, domestic spending in education, health care, and infrastructure, including the energy sector.Included in the Act was $48 billion for transportation projects, such as highway and bridge construction, mass transit, and high-speed rail projects that require civil engineering expertise.
Since that time, the Federal Highway Administration is boasting that progress has been made saying nearly two-thirds of the funding available to the States for highway investment has been obligated and thousands of projects have gotten underway. Pennsylvania's piece as it relates to transportation infrastructure is $1.026 billion to repair its aging roads and bridges. The plan for these stimulus funds allows Pennsylvania to make much-needed fixes to hundreds of bridges and miles of additional highway paving projects while creating and retaining countless jobs. In addition to highway and bridge funding, Pennsylvania's transit agencies are receiving direct Recovery Act funding to improve train, bus, subway and trolley systems. Read More... |

Firm Adopts a Highway
Navarro & Wright Consulting Engineers, Inc. has joined thousands of groups, organizations and individuals that have adopted a highway in the state of Pennsylvania. The company adopted the Rt. 81 & Rt. 322 Interchange in Harrisburg. Adopt-A-Highway is a two-year commitment, with participants agreeing to a minimum of four pickups per year.
"Community service is important to Navarro & Wright and its employees. Over 20 employees offered their time to participate in helping to clean up the Rt. 81 & Rt. 322 Interchange," says Paul Navarro, President. "Although we as a company participate in many philanthropic events, Adopt-A-Highway is special because not only is it beneficial to the community, it's giving back to the industry we work in."
