Make A Hypertufa Container

Join us for a fun evening of creating a hypertufa container and dinner. Your container will look and feel like carved stone, yet it will be lightweight and durable. Each one will be one-of-a-kind by adding your choice of bits and pieces of nature items. Dinner will be soup, a signature chicken salad sandwich half, fresh fruit cup and herbal tea or coffee. $45 includes all of the above plus a starter plant. 

Hypertufa is a man made substitute for tufa rock. Tufa rock is a spongy cellular rock found in limestone country where water has acted to cause wear and leaching out of the original materials to create a porous, rocky material. The rock becomes absorbent in nature due to the continuous wear and tear action of water 

  

Hypertufa is easy to make and aesthetically very pleasing. It looks old and attracts lichens and mosses and has a natural look entirely compatible with plants and shrubs in the garden. Hypertufa tubs are very plant friendly. The bulky and porous wall thickness acts as a reservoir for water from which the plants can drink between showers and waterings. Being porous it allows for easy passage of air to the root systems - a feature often disregarded when using plastic pots.
