This is the time of year when any number of insects seek shelter from the frosts and cold weather of the fall. The yearly routine is more noticeable some years than others and indications this year are that this is going to be a banner year for boxelder bug and ladybug infestation both outside and inside your home.
As is often the case, once this process begins, the garden center is flooded with questions about how to control these insects and the answer is a simple one. You will most often see the bugs congregate on the south and west exposures of your house, the warmest areas. For excellent outdoor control use Hi-Yield Indoor/Outdoor Broad Use Insecticide. One ounce in four gallons of water when used as a spray on outside surfaces of screens, doors, window frames or wherever the pests appear will eliminate the annoyance. There is a myriad of other uses for Indoor/Outdoor around your home and garden so simply prevent the remaining concentrate from freezing and you will have a good, effective insecticide to use next spring, summer and fall.
If you find that the boxelder bugs and ladybugs have already made their way into your house then use Ortho Max Indoor Insect Fogger for superior control.
