GOTR St. Louis
Turns 10!

10 year logo

Girls on the Run St. Louis is celebrating 10 years helping more than 10,000 girls in third through eighth grade in the St. Louis metropolitan area improve their self-esteem through a unique character development program that combines life skills lessons with training for a 5k! That's impressive, considering the program began on a Clayton park bench in 2002 with just 20 girls.

We plan to spend the next three seasons (Spring 2012, Fall 2012 and Spring 2013):

  • Celebrating the 10-year anniversary;
  • Reconnecting with alumni of the program and their families;
  • Raising awareness of the value of the Girls on the Run St. Louis program

Pencil in these events we are planning:

April 18, 2012: Cover of Town & Style magazine and story

May 12, 2012: Girls on the Run St. Louis 5k race in downtown St. Louis

June 2012: LunaFest, a movie festival and coach recognition event

Fall 2012: Health symposium  November 17, 2012: Girls on the Run St. Louis 5k race downtown St. Louis

May 2013: Pre-race grand finale event.

Keep an eye on our website, Facebook, Twitter, and this spot for upcoming announcements about our birthday party and how you can celebrate with us!

Volunteer Spotlight
At the heart of GOTR are amazing volunteers whose commitment and passion change the lives of thousands of girls throughout the St. Louis region each year.

   Robin Macke at race

Meet one of our superstar volunteers: Robin Macke.

Robin is a registered dental hygienist who learned about Girls on the Run from a patient four years ago. She immediately called the St. Louis Council. That spring she and the school nurse, a fellow runner, brought GOTR to St. Joseph Imperial, one of two schools to start GOTR in Jefferson County.

Now four seasons later she has had just as much fun as her girls Jayne (age 11) and Bailey (age 10). She also was behind the effort to add Girls on Track at St. Joseph Imperial this season. In Robin's house, they celebrate two seasons: Christmas and GOTR!

As a Type I Diabetic, Robin is available to advise any coach on the unique exercise and blood sugar concerns of any diabetic participants.

Robin's favorite GOTR moments include having girls who think they are "not athletic" complete a 5k and gain body confidence; hearing that a girl looks forward to GOTR all day; and serving green onions and anchovies as a snack on April Fools Day (they were all relieved to see the "real" snack later).

Favorite Energy Award: The Taylor Swift

Favorite Practice 5k Themes: Peace, Love and Chocolate; Cinco De Mayo

Robin loves to talk GOTR, diabetes, dental health, all sports and pet rescue. She's an amazing coach and a great ambassador of Girls on the Run St. Louis!

Sponsorship Opportunities:

We are looking for companies to help us deliver our life changing program to thousands of girls in the St. Louis region. This means exposure to 5,000+ girls and their families, and 1,000 + adult volunteers for both fall and spring seasons, as well as visibility at our 5k race at the end of each season. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact Katy Sommer.

30 new sites on board for the spring season

We'd like to welcome 30 new sites to the Girls on the Run St. Louis family. These new schools bring the total number of Girls on the Run sites to more than 200 in the St. Louis region. Nearly 130 of these schools will be participating in the spring Girls on the Run St. Louis season, which represents a 24% increase over number of sites participating last spring. Deadline Approaching to Sign up for Spring Season
Regular registration closes Friday, Feb. 10

Regular program registration closes on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at midnight. A parent/guardian must complete an online registration form for each girl. Click here for more information and to register.

A late registration period will begin February 13 at 8 a.m. and extend through February 17 at 5 p.m. for any school that does not have at least eight girls registered (minimum for a team) or hasn't reached the maximum number of girls that they are able to accommodate.  All schools with full teams as of Friday, February 10 will remain closed.  At that point in time, registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until the team is full. When the team fills, registration for that school will automatically close online. Parents should NOT pick a school they don't intend their daughters to participate at if their school is not listed because it is full. We will not be able to add or transfer girls to full teams. All late registrations will be charged an additional $25 fee. No one will be able to register after Friday, February 17 at 5 p.m.

The 10-week season will begin the week of February 20, 2012 and runs through mid-May. Participants meet twice a week, usually after school, for approximately 75-90 minutes each practice. The season culminates with a 5k event where all Girls on the Run participants throughout the St. Louis region come together to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments.
