Volunteer Spotlight
|
At the heart of GOTR are amazing volunteers whose commitment and passion change the lives of thousands of girls throughout the St. Louis region each year.
Meet one of our superstar volunteers ...Jody Weis. Jody has been an avid runner since high school and has completed three half marathons - the most recent being the St. Louis Rock n' Roll half which in her words was "a blast." She has a supportive husband and two daughters (14 & 12) who are also very athletic. Her younger daughter has participated in Girls on the Run twice and Girls on Track this past fall. Jody started coaching at Ridge Meadows Elementary in 2010 and has since brought the middle school program (Girls on Track) to LaSalle Springs Middle. She hopes to stay actively involved with Girls on the Run in some type of capacity for a long, long time and encourages others to do the same. Read what else Jody had to say about Girls on the Run.

In these times of economic uncertainty, with childhood obesity rates at an all time high, St. Louis area girls need your help now more than ever. Girls on the Run: - Increases self-esteem and body-size satisfaction among pre-teen girls.
- Encourages healthy habits and an active lifestyle.
- Provides a non-competitive environment for physical activity.
- Seeks to reduce adolescent pregnancies and eating disorders.
- Encourages healthy eating habits, goal-setting and community building.

Happy Birthday to Girls on the Run St. Louis
| | 10 years and over 10,000 girls served!
Girls on the Run St. Louis is celebrating 10 years helping more than 10,000 girls in the St. Louis metropolitan area improve their self-esteem through a character development program that combines life skills lessons with training for a 5k. We're kicking off a birthday celebration like you've never seen! We plan to spend the next three seasons (Spring 2012, Fall 2012 and Spring 2013): - Celebrating the 10-year anniversary;
- Reconnecting with alumni of the program and their families; and,
- Raising awareness of the value of the Girls on the Run St. Louis program
During these 10 years, we've grown from just 20 girls meeting at a park bench to nearly 2,700 girls at 140 schools in 19 counties in Missouri and Illinois this spring! We have so much many reasons to celebrate: - Girls on the Run St. Louis is developing the female leaders of tomorrow by empowering young girls today and teaching them that they are the "boss of their own brains."
- The Girls on the Run St. Louis program offers an innovative curriculum that is research-based and evaluated.
- Girls on the Run St. Louis provides positive peer group experiences and role models for healthy living and includes running workouts and games that teach healthy decision-making and conflict resolution.
- Girls on the Run St. Louis also gives back to each of the communities it serves through a service project component of the curriculum that requires participants to conduct a community-service project.
- Girls on the Run St. Louis raises all of its funds independently, relying solely on the support of local individuals, businesses and organizations. While a member of the international organization the St. Louis affiliate does not benefit from any umbrella organization funding.
- Through the continued support of generous donors who believe in nurturing today's youth, Girls on the Run St. Louis will continue to expand its programs to provide young girls the necessary tools to live contented, full lives.
We invite each of you to share your Girls on the Run St. Louis stories with us and help us celebrate this milestone for the organization. We will be sharing a detailed calendar of events in the months to come. Be sure to keep an eye on our newsletter, Facebook page and website for upcoming announcements. Thank you again for giving your time, energy and support to this organization. We look forward to celebrating 10 Years of Girls on the Run St. Louis with you!

Pacesetter Profile: Emily Kiser
| | Pacesetters Keep Us Running
 | | Pacesetter Emily Kiser |
I became involved with Girls on the Run St. Louis in spring 2010 when I became a member of the Junior Board. The organization interested me because it blended my lifelong commitment to fitness with the opportunity to help young girls in the St. Louis area get excited about healthy living, and to understand and enjoy the benefits of healthy choices.
Girls on the Run St. Louis gives the girls involved a great sense of self-worth. It is so rewarding to know that I am part of an organization that helps young girls build self-esteem through a great program that also encourages healthy lifestyle choices.
As the current Junior Board President I chose to become a Pacesetter because I believe in the mission of Girls on the Run St. Louis. I wanted to show my support through my financial commitment as well as the commitment of my time on the Junior Board. The Pacesetter program allows for an easy way to donate to a great organization.
My hope for Girls on the Run St Louis is continued growth so more girls are able to benefit from this powerful program. For as little as $10.00 each month girls in the Greater St. Louis area are provided with this life-changing opportunity to learn about healthy living and the benefits of fitness. I know that my monthly donation is going to a great cause!
