The Houston Arts Alliance's OnSite/InSight program is our second item to highlight. Along with the HAA, Interfaith Ministries (IM) and several other organizations, the Boniuk Center is co-sponsoring a series of four visits to selected sacred sites throughout Houston over the weekend of February 26th-27th. Further details and registration information are posted on our website
and below.
Updating the progress of our Sacred Sites Quest (SSQ 2011) is our third item for now. As we have noted previously, our Boniuk Center Facebook page remains the most current source for tracking our SSQ. We have some photo albums posted there of our two-dozen HS students touring sacred spaces like:
And we still have several SSQ visits to make to other sites over the weeks and months to come.
Fourthly, we need to announce the cancellation--or postponement--of the "Evening with Ambassador Akbar Ahmed on America and Contemporary Islam" originally scheduled for Monday, February 21st. Ideally, our cosponsors at the Baker Institute and we will be able to reschedule Ambassador Ahmed for a visit to Rice next fall, instead. We will keep our friends informed of any such developments in our newsletters and on our webpage.
Fifth--and finally, we would like to announce a Sunday, March 30th lecture on Splendors of the Fatimid Court by Francesca Leoni, Ph.D. Dr. Leoni is Curator of the Arts of the Islamic World at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Her lecture will occur at 3:00 p.m. at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center, 1700 First Colony Blvd. in Sugar Land. The program is free and open to the public; a reception will follow. Please email lcsw@usaji.org to register, in order to ensure adequate seating. Additional information about this program appears in the newsletter below.
In sum, it's a busy spring at the Boniuk Center-as usual!
Yours truly, Mike Pardee
