Preparing for Your Summer Trips
|
July 2009 |
|
Greetings!
If your family is like mine, and many of our neighbors, we seem to do a lot more driving in the summer. Whether it's vacations, day trips to the beach or amusement parks, college visits or running children back and forth to camp, it seems like we're driving more than ever.
Of course summer is also when your car or truck works harder, too, as the air conditioning fights off the heat and humidity. This month we offer some tips for your summer driving, particularly if you're planning a vacation. We hope you'll find this information helpful, and invite you to call if you have any questions or would like us to check your systems. As always, the entire American Pride Automotive family thanks you for your support. We strive to show you we care and appreciate your business every day and welcome your feedback so we can serve you better.
Sincerely,
Charlie Marcotte American Pride Automotive

Care for Your Air Conditioning System
|
Before you take your summer vacation, be sure your vehicle's A/C system is up to the task. Although air conditioning systems can be fairly complex, there are a few things you can do to make sure your A/C is performing well and reduce the strain.
- First, when you first get into a hot car or truck, roll down the windows a bit for the first few minutes. If you have a recirculation button, make sure it's turned off. Once the hot air is gone from your vehicle, turn the recirculation back on and close the windows.
- As unlikely as it sounds, most cars and trucks will give better gas mileage with the windows up and air conditioning on, rather than driving around with the windows down.
- On a hot, humid day, it's natural to see water dripping onto the pavement when you park after running your A/C. If you stop seeing water under the vehicle after driving with the A/C on, it could mean the drain has stopped working correctly.
If your vehicles blows only hot air from the vents or blows cold air
sporadically, it's time to have the A/C system serviced or repaired. The same applies if you hear loud noises when the A/C is on. Typical problems are leakage in the system, a low
level of coolant or refrigerant, clogging of the condensers, and/or
failure of the vehicles air conditioner compressors. If you're not sure how your system is holding up, give us a call at 757-595-4100 to schedule a preventative check or maintenance visit. A little time now could make a big difference on your vacation or back-to-college driving this summer!

Remember the Transmission
|

If you own a boat, camper or trailer, chances are you're already taking good care of your transmission system. We generally see an increase in visits for transmission concerns in the summer, particularly for vehicles that tow trailers, boats and campers.
A common complaint is the transmission overheating or responding in a sluggish manner. The solutions vary, but we're happy to examine and service your transmission. Or if you're adding towing to your driving patterns, or taking an extended trip this summer, you may want to consider a separate transmission cooling system -- a radiator for the transmission fluid.
We can also install a remanufactured Jasper transmission if your vehicle's current system is beyond repair. Summer is a good time to have us check and service your transmission, especially if you're planning a vacation with lots of driving. Don't spend your vacation dealing with car trouble -- call American Pride Automotive today to schedule a service visit so we can make sure you're vehicle is in top condition before you head out of town.
