Thank you for your support and involvement this year at KWHS and spreading the word about the Kensington Woods Difference. The faculty ended their year this week with 3 days of professional development where we reflected on the successes of this past year and started planning our summer work. It has been a productive and rewarding year at Kensington Woods and we are all very excited to embark on exciting projects this summer that will bring more engaging and challenging activities into our classrooms next year.
I'm sure you all are looking forward to the relaxing pace of summer and enjoying time with your families. I wish you the very best for a restful summer full of fun and laughter. Please remember to encourage your student to read for fun this summer and stay sharp with their math skills through using our new ALEKS program.
We look forward to seeing you and your children next year. I'm sure the 2011-12 school year will bring continued success and achievement to all of our students.
Warmest regards,
 Jim Perry

Interested in Cross Country or Boys Soccer?
|
Although summer just started, we are already thinking about fall sports.
Cross-Country is a seemingly simple sport that is actually deep with strategy as well as mental and physical toughness. And the great thing about it is that it is a sport for anyone! High School runners race a 5K (3.1 miles) and 7/8th graders race 2 miles. Runners race around a grass or dirt trail, head on head with runners from other schools. We train with a variety of distances, always starting at the runners current fitness level and working them up to race shape.
Although not mandatory, Cross Country has already started running with weekly fun runs. You can find the schedule and summer running information on the right side of this page listed below. Here you will also find physical forms and permission slips. http://kwoods.org/campus/crosscountry.html
We are also looking into starting a Boys Soccer team for the fall, but we will need more players for this to happen. This team would be open to all grades, but playing in all games is to be decided for 7/8th. If you are interested in playing Boys Soccer (this can be done in tandem with running Cross Country), please let Mrs. Pratt know ASAP. If we don't have the numbers in the next few weeks, we won't be able to have Boys Soccer this fall. If you are interested in running or playing Soccer, please contact Jessie Pratt, Cross Country Coach and Athletic Director, jpratt@kwoods.org.

Students Shine in the Stock Market Game!
|
Students in Mrs. Pollman's Advanced Algebra 2/Trigonometry class tested their financial skills in The Stock Market Game this semester. The simulation game took place from March 14th until May 20th. Students started with a virtual cash account of $100,000 and attempted to create the best-performing portfolio using a live trading simulation. Whether it was skill, luck or a combination of the two, many KWHS students managed to make some money during the 10 week game despite a tough economic environment. Check out the students who had the top performing portfolios listed below. Special notice goes to Ashley Gerecke who finished 9th in the region! Stock Market Game- 2011 Final Rankings- out of 994 Regional Participants - 9th- Ashley Gerecke $112,360.89
- 27th-James Stewart $107,008.25
- 79th- Willie Hazel $103,225.91
Congratulations to these students who topped the list at KWHS! |
KWHS Alumni Share Their College Experiences
|

On Monday, May 16th, six KWHS alumni visited during Advisory and gave our students great advice on how to make a successful transition from high school to college. All of the alumni discussed how students must take responsibility for their own learning in college. College life brings many new freedoms, but that also means more responsibility. A special "thank-you" to the alumni listed below for their honest and insightful presentation!

Parent Teacher Group
| KWoods' Parent Teacher Group works hard to put on fun events for the students like Fall Festival and the Senior Picnic. We also work in conjunction with staff to help out wherever needed, such as on field trips or help with fundraisers. We put on fundraisers to have funds available to help out groups such as Game Club and Green Club and to help purchase items when requested by staff or Student Council.
We are looking for someone to co-chair the presidency and someone to be the secretary. Please contact Debbie Uhley, bumd@chartermi.net, if interested.
