This Thursday, January 20^th, the juniors at KWHS will be taking their second and final practice ACT test before they take the actual ACT the first week in March as part of the Michigan Merit Exam (MME).  As you recall, we administered a practice ACT test to juniors back in early October and have used the results of that test to engage in specific ACT preparation activities with the juniors during Advisory.  

The practice test this week will show students the progress they have made throughout the fall in preparing for this test.  Research has proven that one of the most successful test-prep strategies is simply taking practice tests in a test-like environment because the student becomes familiar with the structure of the test and the expectations of a strict testing environment, which in turn can alleviate a lot of anxiety on test day.  In addition, the ACT is a timed test without penalty for guessing so these practice tests can really help students in their pacing on the actual ACT test.  And lastly, these practice tests offer us accurate data on where students can still benefit from test-prep exercises in the final month before the ACT.

The practice test begins at 8am and will take the entire morning to complete.  Please support us in our efforts to make Thursday morning a serious test-like environment by making sure your student has a good breakfast and arrives to school in plenty of time to be prepared to begin at 8am sharp, just as they will be prepared on the actual days of the MME.  Even though this is a practice test, it is crucial that students do their absolute best on this practice ACT so they get a genuine feeling of what it will feel like to take the real test and also so that we get accurate data to best help them to prepare to achieve their absolute highest score when they take the ACT in March.
