Kensington Woods High School

The Egg Drop Design Challenge

Kensington Woods's physics students put their knowledge to the test!  Twenty seven students worked in small groups to design, build and test egg carriers that would safely transport a raw egg during free-fall.  Eggs were required to sustain a minimum fall of 12 feet (simulating the top of a supermarket shelf) without damage.  Each team was challenged to:

  1. Articulate the design problem and propose a solution
  2. Design and test a model to solve the problem, and
  3. Evaluate the model and make recommendations for improvement

Students utilized their knowledge about Newton's three laws to make creative carriers to safely transport the eggs.  They concluded with testing their models and analyzing their final results.   Students performed egg-cellently!

The KWHS Exchange

In 07/08, Kensington Woods High School started an exchange program with a High School in Cologne, Germany. While we just returned from our visit  to Cologne in May 2010, we are expecting our German visitors back in April of this coming year. For this, we are still looking for families interested in hosting a student for the duration of their 2 week stay. If you think you would like share your experience of the American way of life and host a student, please contact Mr. Muennix at mmuennix@kwoods.org. Also, if you are interested in going to Germany or Mexico in 2011, let us know so we can start our planning and include you in our fundraising activities. Information and sign-up sheets are available.

Fundraising
Have you always wanted to help contribute to your school but had no time or extra money to do so? Now fundraising is becoming easier once again! If you shop at Meijer, use ink or laser cartridges in your printer at home or have a Target "Red" Card, contributing to our travel abroad funds will not cost you a cent! Please see or e-mail Mr. Muennix at mmuennix@kwoods.org for details.
