Kensington Woods High School
Meet the New Faculty!
As you may have realized, Kensington Woods High School has two new staff members this year, David Picking and Kim Garber.

David Picking will be teaching Algebra I, Geometry, Economics, Symposium and School Store and is excited about joining the faculty at KWHS.  This is will be his first year teaching after spending this past year completing his Masters Degree in Secondary Education at the University of Michigan.  Before discovering his passion to teach, David spent 23 years as an actuary, where he led all actuarial, product management and regulatory compliance functions of a $200 million personal lines insurer.  He is excited about bringing real world examples into the classroom. David appreciates the value of an education, especially a college education, and the opportunities it affords. He has the goal of inspiring students to continue their education and be life long learners. David can be contacted at dpicking@kwoods.org.

Kim Garber will be teaching Concepts of Physics, Algebra I and Physics II. Before becoming a teacher, Kim Garber worked at Ford Motor Company for 23 years in engineering. She led a variety of programs, including incorporating sustainable technologies used on hybrid vehicles.   She enjoys sharing her engineering experience and passion for solving real world problems using math and science. As a parent of two high school and one middle school students, she understands the necessity of teaching in a relevant and inspirational manner. Her goal is to ensure students leave with a desire and passion to continue exploring mathematics and science. Kim can be contacted at kgarber@kwoods.org.

Parent Teacher Organization

Please join us for our first Parent-Teacher Group meeting this school year.  It will be held Thursday, September 16th at 6:30 in the Big Room.  We'll discuss Fall Festival (staff v. student football!), building a float for Howell's Festival of Lights Parade, fundraising, and any ideas you have for making KWoods a fun and exciting place for our kids.

We're looking for a whole new group of volunteers, so please contact me to help out, to RSVP for the meeting, or to share any ideas you have.

Thanks!

Cross Country is Underway!

2009 Kensington Woods Cross Country
cc2009

The Fall 2010 Cross Country season has started, with runners practicing every day after school, and even competing in their first meet, The Milford Open, a little over a week ago. The Running Bears next meet is Saturday, September 18 at the Holly Invitational in Davisburg.

The Running Bears are also accepting new runners. The goal of the team is to give student athletes a fun and challenging place to improve themselves and work as a team. Runners are worked with at the level that they are at, whether in shape or not. If you have any questions about Kensington Woods Cross Country, contact Jessie Pratt at jpratt@kwoods.org.
