Greetings!
One of the most imprtant things you have as a manufacturer of consumable products is the trust of your customers. That trust is reflected every time they reach for your brand and brand equity can vanish quickly with bad news about a product. While contaminant detection does not add efficiency or speed to your production line, it does keep your product safe, your brand equity in tact and your customers trusting your products.
Today we are featuring the main ways products are testing in line to assure they are safe and in tact when they leave your plant. X-Ray, Vision, Metal Detection, and Check Weigh technologies are explored.
Sincerely,

X-Ray
The Current State of the Art
X-Rays rays are generated electronically and do not create any radioactivity. When the power source is eliminated, the tube does not generate x-rays.
As indicated, the machine generates a small slice of x-rays that is measured by the linear array detector under the belt and product. Smaller receiving diodes generate better image resolution and data and therefore allows for better detection of contaminants and image analysis. As product passes through this beam, the detector measures the density of the product at specific point per the amount of X-Ray blocked by the product itself. When a contaminant is darker than the product because it blocks more x-ray light, it is highlighted and rejected from the production line.
Cabinet X-Ray
uses a very low dose X-Ray to look at your product as it passes down the production line. Where as a metal detector can see most types of metals down to a certain range, X-Ray can see smaller pieces of all types of metal ( down to .4mm) in addition to being able to see, glass, bones, wire, rubber and some other materials. The waves pass through the food and nothing remains, just as photons from the sun light passes through your body or microwaves pass through your food. The unit can also provide accurate information on product weight, missing pieces, mask out metal clips used to seal the package and much more.
In as part of your plant HACCP program, X-Ray is the most secure way to keep the product that leaves your plant free of contaminants. Right Stuff represents Anritsu, the global leader which has over 6,000 units placed in the food industry. Metal Detection

Metal Detectors use electromagnetic fields to surround the product as it passes through the aperture. A metal contaminant disrupts those magnetic fields. That disruption causes the detectors to signal a reject is found. The machine can be programmed to stop on detection or an auto reject can discharge theproduct from the conveyor. The aperture should be sized close to the dimensions of your largest container to be tested.
Anritsu is the only metal detector manufacturer in the World to offer Dual Wave (DuW) technology. Other metal detector brands provide multi-frequency or dual frequency metal detectors yet all others do not ...
*Automatically choose from pre-installed frequencies
*Run two frequencies simultaneously
*Maximize detection of both ferrous and stainless contaminants.
*Dual Wave technology offered exclusively by Anritsuwas developed on the principle that two metal detectors at two independent frequencies are required to maximize detection of both the ferrous and stainless metals contaminants.
In additon to Dual Wave, technology, Anritsu has a self learning function that identifies the best settings for you automatically. It also has variable speed adjustment standard and tool less disassembly for cleaning. Add that to the fact they have sold 40,000 units and you have the right combination of features to keep your products metal free.

Check Weigh Load Cell and Force Balance. Anritsu has them both
A checkweigher continuously measures the weights of individual products on a production line and:
Rejects grossly under and over weight filled products
Collects data of the production run
Compiles and graphs data for production and QA analysis
Document filling and labeling law requirements
The main reasons for using checkweighers on production lines are to:
1. Prevent the shipment of faulty products(quality control)
A checkweigher automatically checks that the product weight and/orquantity matches the indicated label data and rejects products outside of the allowed trend or average of the product.
2. Improve overall production yield. Checkweighers can be used to control filling machines so that the product weight exactly satisfies the target weight range and therefore produces only the specified target amount. If you do not know what the actual weights are, then you can not control it to reduce yield loss. An amazing amount of money can go out the door as over flow if it is not controlled closely. |
We have an Anritsu Metal Detector/Checkweigher in our New Equipment Show Room.
We can run tests on your product to determine weight sensitivity and contaminant sensitivity for you for free.
