This Sunday

July 4th
The 6th Sunday after Pentecost
(Proper 9)

O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

2 Kings 5:1-14
Psalm 30
Galatians 6:(1-6), 7-16
Luke 10:1-11, 16-20

8am: Holy Eucharist Our early service is unaccompanied by music and usually lasts about 50 minutes. Coffee and fellowship are offered before the service begins in the parish hall, while the sanctuary is available for quiet prayer. Another coffee hour follows the service.

10am: Holy Eucharist Our late morning service is accompanied during the summer  by organ music and congregational singing, along with an informal Taize singing group that offers chant during Communion and rehearses briefly following the service. Nursery care is available for our youngest members and guests. A festive coffee hour for children and adults follows the Eucharist

P.S. Did you know the Book of Common Prayer holds Independence Day as a feast of the church? Because Feasts of Our Lord (i.e. Sunday) take precedence over minor feasts, this year the official BCP celebration of Independence Day is transferred to Monday. Here are the collect for Independence Day, and the scriptures that go with them:

Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Deuteronomy 10:17-21
Hebrews 11:8-16
Matthew 5:43-48
Psalm 145 or 145:1-9

Upcoming Events

Independence Day:The separation of Church and State doesn't mean we can't pray for our nation or sing a few patriotic songs this Sunday. The 8am service will end with a special guest appearance by our organist Naomi Shiga and the singing of "America the Beautiful". The 10am service will have patriotic hymns throughout. In addition, the preacher intends to ignore 2 Kings for a week and preach on some famous American Scriptures. Come and join in, and be safe all day! (please note: fireworks are discouraged during the Eucharist).

Church in the Park/Parish Picnic: Join us Sunday, July 11th for the 10am service at Clark's Creek Park (the 8am service will be at the church as usual). Come for worship, fellowship, food, and games. Bring your own chairs or blanket to sit on, dishes and utensils for picnicking, drinks for yourselves and a potluck dish to share. Directions to the park are on the welcome table in the Parish Hall.

Summer Book Study: Session two begins a week from this Sunday (on July 11th). We'll be reading "How to Heal a Fractured World" by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. There are still three seats available in the live portion of this discussion; let Fr. Ben know if you'd like to participate. Otherwise, you can get further details and participate in the online portion of the discussion at our blog: www.cecopbookstudy.blogspot.com/
