May 30th Trinity Sunday
Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to
us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to
acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your
divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and
worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory,
O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen. Proverbs
8:1-4, 22-31 Psalm
8 Romans
5:1-5 John
16:12-15
8am: Holy Eucharist
Our early service is unaccompanied by music and usually lasts about 50 minutes. Coffee and fellowship are offered before the service begins in the parish hall, while the sanctuary is available for quiet prayer. Another coffee hour follows the service.
10am: Holy Eucharist
Our late morning service is accompanied during the summer by organ music and congregational singing, along with an informal Taize singing group that offers chant during Communion and rehearses briefly following the service. Nursery care is available for our youngest members and guests. A festive coffee hour for children and adults follows the Eucharist.

Upcoming Events
The Church Office will be closed on Tuesday, June 1st
for Memorial Day. On
Sunday, June 6th, there will be a training/refreshing session for all
current
and interested Altar Party members. The training will take place after
each
service that morning. If you are already involved in one of these
ministries,
please plan to attend so that we can all be on the same liturgical page
as we
worship. If you are interested in participating, or are simply curious,
you are
also invited to sit in and ask questions. Ministries included under the
"Altar Party" label are: Lay Readers, Chalice Bearers, Eucharistic
Visitors,
Acolytes, and Servers. Serving at the Altar on Sunday mornings and other
occasions of worship is both an honor and a responsibility. When done
with
faith, it can also be a joy! Thank you for your ministry, and we hope to
see
you at this training session.
In
a previous week's edition of The
Friday Letters, Fr. Ben announced two Book
Study series' for this summer. The first book is An Altar in the
World
by Barbara Brown Taylor, running for three weeks beginning June 6th. The
second
book is To Heal a Fractured World by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks
beginning on
July 11th. The study series' will have both a real-time, in-person
component,
as well as an anytime, online component. You can get all the details by
checking out the new CECoP Book Study Blog.
Please join us for the Taizé chamber group this summer! During communion this
summer we will be singing Taizé songs. These are songs based on lines from the
Psalms or other pieces of scripture that were conceived and composed for the
Taizé Community founded by Frčre Roger in Switzerland in 1940. The melodies of
Taizé song feature simple, short melodies that may be repeated again and
again, giving them a meditative quality that allows everyone to participate in
listening to God through prayerful singing. We will sing a different song every
week, and will need a number of voices who know the melodies to aid us in
worship. Beginning in June, following coffee hour church organist, Naomi Shiga
will spend 10 to 15 minutes in the Sanctuary teaching the new song for the
following Sunday. From the non-music readers to the instrumentalist (any
instruments are welcome!), young to old, all welcome! It is always as important
to have a singing leader in the congregation as the choir loft. If you are
simply interested to learn to support congregational singing from the pew, you
can still join us for the rehearsal. We will use some of our more rare hymns to
warm up, so your hymn repertoire should grow in this summer too!
Planned
Giving/Stewardship/Evangelism workshop, "Getting Your Affairs in Order,
Acting on Your Values": Carl
Knirk, Canon for Planned Giving/Stewardship for the Diocese of Olympia and on
Bishop Rickel's staff will be with us Sunday, June 27, to offer the homily at
our worship services and lead a Life Planning Seminar following the service,
lasting about an hour. Everyone attending church will receive their own free copy
of the Diocesan Life Planning Manual. This manual may be the most valuable tool
you can have to get your life planning in order. It helps put life planning in a
Christian context.Check out the Diocese of Olympia planned giving website at www.ecwwgift.org
where you can print out a copy. Plan to join us June 27th. The stories
Carl tells may motivate you to quit procrastinating and to get your life plans
in order. After all, none of us knows when our time may come.
Please check the 'Mark Your Calendars!' section for more upcoming events, or see our online calendar.

Support
Our Troops:
during the summer months, 7,500 single soldiers will be coming
home to
Joint Base Lewis-McChord. We would like to support these single soldiers
and
stock up their living quarters with non-perishable food and hygiene
items.
Examples of items that would be appreciated are: chips, pretzels, nuts,
bottled
water, hygiene items, and non-frozen TV dinners. We will collect them in
the
bins in the Parish Hall, and they will be delivered to JBLM. We won't
need help
with mailing packages this time, but we would appreciate any donations.
