Special Annual Meeting Edition
Christ Episcopal Church of Puyallup

This Sunday, after the 8:00am and before the 10:00am Eucharists, our Annual Parish Meeting will be held in the sanctuary. All members of the Parish are encouraged to attend. You will have the opportunity to hear the year-end financial report from 2009 and to learn about our budgeting plans for this year. Candidates for our 2012 Vestry class are listed below, and you will be asked to vote for them. Please plan to attend this necessary part of our life together.

Vestry Nominations

Vestry Positions Nominations

It is our practice at CECoP to nominate only the number of people needed to fill vacancies each year. This year we have five vacancies and below are the five nominees who have been selected by the Vestry with your input, and who have agreed to serve. While it may seem oddly undemocratic to ask you to vote for five people to fill five spots, this is a very common and practical way to fill elected volunteer positions in a community such as ours. It is possible to nominate additional candidates during the Annual Meeting itself, though in the interest of avoiding hurt feelings and misunderstandings you are asked to make you intention to do so known to either Fr. Ben or Henry Nielsen, our outgoing Sr. Warden.

And now, to introductions. Our nominated Vestry class of 2012 are...

Carol Kaiser
Carol has been at Christ Church for 15 now, though she says it seems like not so long ago that she arrived. A previous member of the choir, she currently serves as Lector and Eucharistic Minister at the 10:00am service.

George Pica
George and his wife Carol have been members at Christ Church for about five years. George served on the Vestry previously, though only for a brief time due to a job transfer that didn't pan out in the end. Regular attenders at the 8:00am service will know George by the ever-present Venti Starbucks cup in his hand.

Stephanie Roberts
Stephanie joined Christ Church in 1992 and has been an active member in the 18 years since. A regular at the early service, Stephanie has previously served as Jr. Warden on the Vestry, on the pastoral care committee, and with hospitality. Currently, her biggest project is the very successful  Santa's Seconds sale each Advent season.

Pat Horn
Pat has been a member of Christ Church since 1980, making her our longest tenured nominee for this year. She has previously served in Sunday school and on various committees here and there. Pat currently participates in the annual Women's Retreat and is the guild member in charge of cleaning up wine spills on the altar cloth.

Anna Class
Anna and her husband Joe are relatively recent members of Christ Church, arriving just in time for Easter on 2008. A self-described "geek", Anna teaches math at Bonney Lake High School. Anna and Joe are the proud parents of the intrepid Emily who just turned two, and Julian, who will be 4 weeks old by the time of the Annual Meeting.

Outgoing Vestry Memebers

Many Thanks!

The outgoing Vestry class of 2009 have done great work this past year. The Vestry began the year with a passion for Children's Education and a revamped Sunday School is a direct result of their energy. Towards the end of the year it became clear that financial matters were going to take a lot of energy, and the Vestry has worked well together to make the best decisions possible in a tough situation. We all owe our thanks to these great folks who have labored on behalf of this parish and all of us in it.

Budget Comments

An Update from your Vestry

On Tuesday evening, January 26th, after much discussion, the Vestry passed our 2010 Operating Budget. This budget will be presented in its entirety at the Annual Meeting, and will be included in the Annual Report. The CECoP Operating Budget is a public document, though not one we advertise widely. Any member of the congregation may see the budget at any time. If you'd like a copy before the meeting you can request one by email or stop by the office Thursday afternoon (1 to 4pm) or Friday (9am to 12, 1 to 4pm).

In brief, our 2010 operating budget includes a deficit of  $23,781.00. This is after a detailed process of trimming expenses in many small places and deferring a salary increase for Fr. Ben. We'll need to take some money out of our savings as well. The remaining deficit, nearly all of the $23,781.00, will be met by paying our Diocesan Assessment at 50% of what we owe. This is a less than perfect solution to a difficult problem - but it does allow us to maintain control of our cashflow as we move forward, while giving us freedom to adapt to whatever conditions 2010 may bring with it.Come to the meeting for more details, or ask any outgoing Vestry member if you have questions.
