November 30th The First Sunday in Advent
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the
works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of
this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in
great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his
glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to
the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
8am: Holy Eucharist
Our early service is unaccompanied by music and usually lasts about 50 minutes. Coffee and fellowship are offered before the service begins in the parish hall, while the sanctuary is available for quiet prayer. Another coffee hour follows the service.
10am: Sunday School takes place during the first part of our 10am service. The children join the congregation at the peace and share with the whole community in Eucharist.
10am: Holy Eucharist
This Eucharistic service is accompanied by Organ and includes congregational hymns and service music. During the summer months our choir is on sabbatical and various musical offerings will be made during the liturgy. A coffee hour for kids and adults follows the service.
11:30am: Music rehearsals Following the worship services, our musical groups gather to prepare for the next weeks' offerings. |

Upcoming Events
Giftmaker's Toys: will be collected today to be distributed to local families. Monetary donations are also appreciated since no school district money can be used for this project.
Advent Fair: today after both services. Get some of your Christmas shopping done early! 'Nets for Life' will be on sale at the Advent Fair and again on December 14th. This will support the church's commitment to the Church's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to help control and prevent malaria in sub-Saharan Africa by providing mosquito netting for those most at risk of this devastating disease. In parts of Africa where malaria is endemic, 3,000 children die every day and millions are left weak and disabled for life. For $ 12 you can help save three children's lives.
Raffle to benefit scholarships for women's retreat: A large Christmas basket has been donated, and will be raffled off over the next few Sundays. Tickets will be $ 1 apiece or 6 tickets for $5. The winner will be announced on December 14th.
Men's Group meets Thursday evenings, December 4th and 18th at 7 pm at Trackside Pizza on Meridian in downtown Puyallup (next to the tracks). All men are welcome.
Children's Sermon and visit from St. Nick: next Sunday, December 7th during the 10 am service.
Tapestry Singers' Concert: Sunday, December 7th at 3 pm in the Sanctuary. Suggested donation is $ 5; refreshments will be served after the show.
Sonora Concert: Sunday, December 14th at 2 pm in the Sanctuary. They will be performing a variety of sacred and secular holiday music with the showcase piece being Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on Christmas Carols".
Santa's Seconds Sale: Saturday, December 6 from 10 am to 3 pm. Setup will be on Friday, December 5, starting at 10 am. All volunteers are welcome (and needed!). A light lunch will be served on both days. Things that sell well: jewelry, stationery, greeting cards, Xmas decorations, clothing with a Christmas motif, linens, pictures, knick-knacks, candles, toys, games, and current books. Items should be in good repair. Donations may be left on the stage in the Parish Hall. If you have questions, please call Stephanie Roberts at 253/840-4370.
Knitting Ministry: will meet again on Monday the 15th of December, at Forza Coffee Company , 210 W. Pioneer Ave., located in down town Puyallup, at 6:00 pm. Anyone who is new to our Christ Church family and would like to know what the Knitting Ministry is all about, please come and join us. All skill levels are welcome. Our ministry provides warmth and comfort to those who are facing difficult times.
Freezing Nights Ministry: churches in Puyallup are gearing up to house Puyallup's homeless overnight, when the temperature drops below 35 degrees. There are currently 8 churches who have offered to host, and we are short of volunteers who will spend the evenings at the churches. There are usually 3 or 4 people every night that volunteer to set up cots, help with meals and other tasks. Over the course of the winter this can get taxing on volunteers unless we recruit more to be involved and spread the work around. If you are interested in being a volunteer for hands on personal relationship type ministry to the homeless in Puyallup please call Mary Briskee at 253-840-5866 or email freezingnights@comcast.net. You can also talk to Elsa, who has been involved in this ministry since it's inception 4 years ago.
General Announcements
The children will be presenting a pageant telling the traditional story
of the Nativity at the Christmas Eve service at 4:00 pm. All children,
grandchildren, and guests are invited to participate. Rehearsals will
begin on November 30th during Sunday school time (10:00 - 10:40).
Additional rehearsal may be needed closer to performance date.
Junior
high and senior high students are encouraged to participate as a chorus
that will enhance the telling of the story of the Nativity. Those
students that are adept at playing a musical instrument are also needed
to accompany the congregation and soloists.
If interested, or if there are questions, please contact Shannon Mitchell at (253) 445-4436 or by e-mail.

Thank you for volunteering your time at Christ Church....
On behalf of the vestry I want to take the time to recognize and thank the ushers and greeters, the Sunday school teachers and the nursery attendants. Without the volunteers who help with each of these programs the Sunday morning services would not run smoothly or be complete!
Thank you to the following people who volunteer to usher and greet:
8 a.m. ushers: Jayne Absher, Ken Keener, Mark Loffer, Ed Miller, Mac Owen, and Luke Owen
10 a.m. ushers: Mike & Sue Golden, Suzan Leone, Paul & Alyse Russell, Tom & Lorna Russell, Rick Tanner, and Bill & Elsa Woodard
Greeters: Jayne Absher, Vicki Beetham, Ken Keener, Pat Loffer, Mac Owen, Mary Lou Vanderbilt and Nancy Munro
Our Sunday school program is off to a great start and we have Shannon Mitchell to thank for that! Shannon has put together a program that is user friendly for the teachers and the kids enjoy learning the lessons. Thank you Brad Gallagher, Hillary and Mary Wheeler, and Alyse Russell for helping Shannon teach Sunday school!
The nursery is available to families with young children in our church and we appreciate the time and service that Charlotte Miller has done in scheduling and organizing the workers and volunteers in the nursery. Elena and Cailin Bary and Hillary and Mary Wheeler work for Charlotte as nursery attendants and work well with our young children. Thank you to the following volunteers who work with the nursery staff each Sunday: Charlotte Miller, Karen Jensen, Paul Russell and Charlie Clayton. Each of these programs is ongoing and always in need of volunteers to help them run smoothly. If you would like to volunteer your time and are interested in ushering or greeting at either service please contact Elsa Woodard at 253-848-2323. If you would like to help teach Sunday school Shannon Mitchell can be reached at 253-241-5553 and Charlotte Miller can be reached at 253-826-3215 if you would like to help in the nursery.
Thank you all for the service you do for Christ Church!
God Bless,
Alyse
