| Christ the King Weekend Activities
November
22nd marks the evening before Christ the King Sunday, the birthday of
our parish. We'll be celebrating the occasion with a Choral Evensong at
5:00pm followed by a pot-luck dinner.
The pot-luck will follow the time-honored
format of last name division of dishes. If your name begins with the
letters A through J, please bring a main dish to share. If K through R,
a side or a salad would be appreciated. Those whose names begin with S
through Z are in charge of dessert offerings.
At
both the 8 and 10am Eucharists on Christ the King Sunday (November
23rd) Katherine Kaiser will share a few stories and anecdotes from the
history of Christ Episcopal Church and the town of Puyallup. Old
pictures and documents will be on display in the parish hall. CECoP is
125 years old this year!
Also, because of a liturgical oversight
regarding St. Francis' Day, folks are invited to bring their pets for
blessings on Christ the King Sunday. Blessings will be offered at the
beginning of each service, after which pets are welcome to stay for the
service or retire to the car for a nap.
Hope to see everyone there!

November 23rd Christ the King Sunday
Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is
to restore all things in your well¯beloved Son, the King of kings and
Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided
and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most
gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and for ever. Amen.
8am: Holy Eucharist
Our early service is unaccompanied by music and usually lasts about 50 minutes. Coffee and fellowship are offered before the service begins in the parish hall, while the sanctuary is available for quiet prayer. Another coffee hour follows the service.
10am: Sunday School takes place during the first part of our 10am service. The children join the congregation at the peace and share with the whole community in Eucharist.
10am: Holy Eucharist
This Eucharistic service is accompanied by Organ and includes congregational hymns and service music. During the summer months our choir is on sabbatical and various musical offerings will be made during the liturgy. A coffee hour for kids and adults follows the service.
11:30am: Music rehearsals Following the worship services, our musical groups gather to prepare for the next weeks' offerings. |

Upcoming Events
Christ the King Choral Evensong: Saturday, November 22nd at 5 pm, with potluck celebration to follow. For dinner, please bring a main dish if your last name begins with A-J, a side dish or salad K-R, or a dessert S-Z. In addition to the liturgical feast, this offering of music and prayer is in honor of our retiring organist and music director, Leslie Doerner.
Christ the King Sunday: November 23rd marks the birthday of our own
Christ Church. There will be some historical readings during the
serivices; and you are also encouraged to bring your pets to be blessed.
Support Our Troops: We will be
packing boxes to mail to the troops in Iraq, on Sunday, November 23rd
between the services. This should ensure that the packages are
delivered in time for Christmas. There is a new list of items they
would appreciate getting, on the round table in the Parish Hall.
Anything you can contribute would be gratefully received. Monetary
contributions to help with mailing costs are welcome also.
Giftmaker's Toys: will be collected on Sunday, Nov. 30th, to be distributed to local families. Suggestions to help make this year's gift giving a success: toys, books, and board games for children ages 4-14; sporting equipment such as basketballs, plastic bats and balls, and volleyballs; infant and pre-school toys; holiday stockings and stocking stuffers. Monetary donations are also appreciated since no school district money can be used for this project.
The Cornerstone Office will be closed for Thanksgiving, November 27th and 28th. Thanksgiving Eve service on Wed., Nov. 26th at 7 pm
The annual Advent Fair is Sunday, November 30th after both services. If you would like a table to sell your crafts and goods, please call the Ofiice and let Elsa know. There is no charge for the tables, but please tithe to the church from your sales.
Santa's Seconds Sale: will be on Saturday, December 6 from 10 am to 3 pm. Setup will be on Friday, December 5, starting at 10 am. All volunteers are welcome (and needed!). A light lunch will be served on both days. Last year, profits from the sale were the highest ever because many new items were generously donated. Things that sell well include jewelry, stationery, greeting cards, Xmas decorations, clothing with a Christmas motif, linens, pictures, knick-knacks, candles, toys, games, and current books. Items should be in good repair. Old pieces of luggage, unmatched glasses and coffee mugs, and old computers and accessories do not sell well, and should be donated to local thrift shops.Donations may be left on the stage in the Parish Hall the week preceding the sale. If you have questions, please call Stephanie Roberts at 253/840-4370.
Children's Sermon and St. Nicholas Visit are planned
for the 10:00am worship service on December 7th. Make
sure the children in your life are there for this special
occasion!
General Announcements
November is 'anything to help make a Thanksgiving Dinner' month for the Food Bank Thank you for sharing your blessings with those less fortunate! In lieu of the traditional wine ingathering,
the
Altar Guild requests that we make donation of food to the FISH Food
Bank. Our abundance of wine will easily see us through the next year;
let's help others during this hungry time. All food or money donations
will be gratefully accepted.

Some Financial News
|
|
 |
From the Finance Committee
Our Treasurer, Sue Wohlford, reports that as of October 31st our income from pledges is down about $17,000.00. This represents about 7% of our budget for 2008. Some of this shortfall is likely left over from summer absences, and some is probably due to a certain Rector's vacation during most of October. And some of the shortfall is likely due to the current economic difficulties under which we are all living now.
Parishioners are asked to catch up on their pledges wherever possible, and if a permanent change in your giving has happened to let Gwena Hedlund, our Pledge Secretary, know, so that the budget may be anonymously adjusted. We give thanks for the continued generosity of this parish and its people, through good times and bad.
The Diocesan Investment Fund
A recent report from the Diocesan Investment Fund board came out.CECoP has three accounts with the DIF, so this affects our long term savings directly. The news is fairly good considering our economic situation. Bob Keuhn, DIF Chair, opens the report this way:
The Investment Committee for the DIF met on October 24th to review the investment strategy and possible changes in the portfolio. We did not change our long-term strategy of managing a balanced and diversified portfolio. We discussed the very difficult current investment environment and reviewed the individual securities in the portfolio in light of their long-term quality and potential. Our strategy over the previous years of maintain only the strongest fixed income positions (all U.S. Treasuries and Government Agencies) has proved to be a great decision. The fixed income portfolio has no credit problems.
