August 22nd The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 16)
Grant, O merciful God, that your Church, being
gathered together in unity by your Holy Spirit, may show forth your
power among all peoples, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Our early service is unaccompanied by music and usually lasts about 50 minutes. Coffee and fellowship are offered before the service begins in the parish hall, while the sanctuary is available for quiet prayer. Another coffee hour follows the service.
10am: Holy Eucharist
This Eucharistic service is accompanied by Organ and includes congregational hymns and service music. During the summer months our choir is on sabbatical and various musical offerings will be made during the liturgy. A coffee hour for kids and adults follows the service. |

The Cornerstone Garage

A Bicycle Community Center
This past Saturday, following the usual morning bike ride to Orting and back, a crack team of engineers and laborers gathered in the small garage at the back of the Cornerstone office building. Their mission: install lights, bike storage racks, shelving, and workbenches. They did an amazing job over five hours and the Cornerstone Garage is starting to look like a first rate amateur bike shop. Here's a couple photos from the day:

The Orting Starbucks doesn't have any bicycle parking, so we generally occupy an entire parking spot for our bikes. At first it seemed kind of rude to the Starbucks people, but then we thought, "hey, that's ten customers in one parking spot. You can't get that from a parked car. How can they complain?" After the ride, construction ensued. There were piles of recycled bricks to move before anything could get built. The above picture illustrates our strict adherence to the proper ratio of two supervisors per every person doing any actual work. Thanks to all who participated. Charlie Clayton was our project manager, ably assisted by his son-in-law Donny (pictured), Bill Woodard, and Len Barrett. Unskilled labor was provided by Alex Partington and Luke Owen, while Ashley Dawson provided moral support and Fr. Ben basically just ordered the pizza for lunch. Now that construction is finished it's just a matter of getting organized and refurbishing a few bicycles. There will be an open house on Sunday, September 7th after each service so everyone will be able to come across the street and see the place. |
