The Tenth Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 11)

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A Prayer for Washington

O Thou Creator Divine,
who dost fashion our lives by the rhythm of Earth,
we thank Thee
for that wide span of glory we call Washington.

Hardy the wagons that first came there, and the little ships,
which were met by shining salmon striving,
upstream leaping
that life might be sown anew.

Bless, O God, our struggle too,
that fresh bounty may come of our hands and hearts,
and goodness like unto Thee.

Thus upon the plains, by ocean's teeming Sound,
and 'round the snowy sentinels
that guard these timbered hills,
may Thy people live ennobled by Thy grace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
