Almighty God, you have built your Church upon
the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being
the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of

to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.Genesis 22:1-14

Consider the FISH Food Bank this Summer
|
by Robin Partington
|
 |
As you visit the grocery store this summer, please consider adding 'FISH
Food Bank donation' to your shopping list. Christ Church has a long history
of generously supporting the Puyallup FISH food bank, which recently moved
to a much larger space just a few blocks from our Parish. Several dedicated
Parishoners volunteer regularly at the food bank and Christ Church members
are familiar with and make frequent offerings to the donation barrel in the
Parish Hall.
The recent rise in prices of staples such as corn, rice and soy products,
along with higher fuel prices, have contributed to both a decrease in
donations and an increase in people served by the food bank this past year.
FISH, which stands for Friends in Service to Him, is a nondenominational
network of eight Pierce County food banks. The number of families the
network supports has risen by 8 percent this year, about 24,000 people. At
the same time, private donations are more than 12,000 pounds less than
those made at the same point in 2007. According to the Tacoma News Tribune, an average of 20-40 new families are relying on the food bank every day and each family receives at least 40 pounds of food.
Although there are monthly themes for suggested donations, any non
perishable food items are welcome, along with toiletries, infant food and
diapers. Protein based foods such as canned ham, fish and beans are
especially needed. The food bank theme for the month of July is peanut
butter. Thank you for your continued support of this important community
outreach.

United Thank Offering (UTO)
|

by Katherine Meier

Ingathering July 13th
The famous blue boxes have been on the back table [by the Food Bank barrel] for several months now. Let's have a UTO Ingathering at the Parish picnic on July 13. I will also be at the 8 o'clock service that day. When I move south, I may attend Christ Church, Las Vegas, which I visited in Nov. 2007. I adapted the following from their bulletin on ingathering Sunday:
The United Thank Offering is a program of The Episcopal Church for mission. Founded by and administered by women in 1889, the UTO is a spiritual and financial partner in the mission work of The Episcopal Church. Through every person in every pew, UTO is entrusted to promote thank offerings, to receive the offerings, and to distribute the UTO monies through grants. The UTO committee awards and administers these grants within the framework of the policies and procedures of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society [DFMS] of The Episcopal Church.
