About the AFCA:

The mission of the American Foundation for Children with AIDS is to improve the lives of children and youth struggling with the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. We provide cost-effective relief, services, medical and social support, education and advocacy to help these victims achieve their full life potential.
Dear Friends,

It has been difficult to hear about the civil unrest in Kenya and to know that not all of our children are safe and that, in fact, many are now displaced.  One child was killed by a stray bullet, many had their shacks burned down, and 26 children are still unaccounted for. Yet the work continues with nurses and counselors searching for missing children in order to provide them with the medicine they need to survive.

Staff from the hospitals we support are working overtime, treating people of all tribes who are coming for surgery and care with indescribable injuries.  Their compassion and determination are examples to us at AFCA, showing us what true care is.

Friends, we have been asked by our partners in Mombasa and Elementita to send extra nutritional supplements, blankets, milk, medical supplies, and oil so it can be provided to the many displaced people for whom they are caring.  We are happy to do so but need your help to make it possible.  Please consider making a special donation to allow us to continue providing the people of Kenya with what they need during these difficult times.

Press Release:   AFCA Increases Aid in
                                Response to Kenyan Crisis

AFCA is sending additional supplies to children and adults, including those who are currently staying in camps for displaced people. It is estimated that over 300,000 children and adults have been displaced as a result of their homes being burned. They are forced to sleep in churches, parks and on the streets. Children and adults with HIV/AIDS are at increased risk because they may not have access to their medication.

"We receive daily reports from our partners in Kenya and are deeply concerned about the increased risk facing the children with HIV/AIDS whom we serve," said AFCA Executive Director Tanya Weaver. AFCA is working with the Archdiocese of Mombasa Community Based Heath Care and AIDS Relief Program, which serves over 500,000 people in seven parishes of Mombasa.

A contribution of $30 provides a full month's worth of life-saving medication to an HIV positive child. With $5,000, AFCA can provide a 40-foot container of much-needed food, hygiene kits, milk, and other supplies to partner hospitals.

Tax-deductible contributions can be made to AFCA and sent to 6221 Blue Grass Avenue, Harrisburg, PA, 17112, or online at AFCA.

One of the ways that AFCA can earn money for the children is by utilizing eBay's no-fee policy for non-profit businesses.  By doing so, AFCA is able to collect 100% of the profit.  It was for this reason that Sarah Ladnerwas brought on-board to help the foundation by serving as the manager for our online eBay store.

When Enrique, our former bookkeeper moved to Colombia, Christine Bitikofer took the reigns and joined AFCA as our new Finance Manager.  With a degree in accounting, Chris comes well-equipped to oversee and manage AFCA's finances and we welcome her to our organization.

We thank Enrique for 2.5 years of honest and faithful work and wish him the very best in his current endeavors and we welcome Chris and Sarah and look forward to many years of work together.
