About the AFCA:

The mission of the American Foundation for Children with AIDS is to improve the lives of children and youth struggling with the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. We provide cost-effective relief, services, medical and social support, education and advocacy to help these victims achieve their full life potential.
Dear Friends,

During this special season of the year when we stop to think of the things for which we are grateful, I want to introduce to you all the wonderful volunteers who help us in so many different ways.  Through the giving of their talents, they are each part of saving the lives of the beautiful children whom we serve, like Abidnego (left).   Logo

Join me in learning about each of these incredible people and consider joining them as they fight to give children on the other side of the world life, dignity and hope.

To each of you who are a part of us, thank you.

On behalf of the children,

Meet our VOLUNTEERS!

Marketing: Jack Cantwell -
"Marketing Professional Jack Cantwell (SkyLimit Marketing, PA) has been lending his talents to the AFCA cause by donating consulting and creative writing time. Jack has worked for large Advertising and Promotion  Agencies and Corporations domestically and internationally, and is now settled in Pennsylvania with his own marketing business. Besides teaching Marketing and Sales for Elizabehtown (PA) College, he keeps Tanya laughing and learning."

Social Networker: Clare Cook - "I live in NC with my husband, Tyler, and my Siamese, Mosin.  Tyler and I hike a lot, but the cat's not so fond of it and usually doesn't come along.  I'm a huge fan of books (Yes, I did dress up for the Harry Potter Book Seven release.  I was Luna.), and read about four a week.  I also love to hula hoop, which I know sounds silly, but I really, really love it"

Photographer: Colin Crowley - "I'm a freelance photographer and video producer from Wisconsin. In April of 2006, I went to Nairobi, Kenya to take photos and make a documentary video about the work that AFCA does in East Africa. While logistically and emotionally, this was one of the most difficult projects I have ever done, it was also the most rewarding. As a photographer and filmmaker, it's a real motivation to know that the pictures and videos that I produce are going to be used to help the people I'm photographing. Currently, i am working in Mombasa, Kenya and I really enjoy being in the field because it puts me in a position to see first-hand the difference that AFCA is making to all of these children. My hope is that the pictures and videos I take of the children will then show the donors how appreciated and important their donations are."

Inventory/Book Sales Queen: Nancy Sean - I am a 40-something mother of three who is closer to something other than 40.  I have been a volunteer youth leader for the better part of ten years.  One of my favorite aspects of youth ministry has been service and compassion-centered activities, especially mission trips.  I love sharing my faith and fellowshipping with people from other cultures.  How much I have to learn from those whose lives are different than mine!   My hobbies include family ancestry, kayaking, historical research, and journal writing.  I live on a ten acre farmette in Central Pennsylvania with my husband of almost 30 years, Greg, a teenage daughter, and an adult son.    AFCA is an extremely worthwhile organization in which to volunteer, and I hope many, many people catch hold of the need to improve the lives of children with AIDS.

Jack of all Trades: Gretchen Giordano - "I'm married and live with a dog, a bunny and assorted other creatures.  I've worked as a decorative painter for the past 15 years but have started taking classes at a local community college in case I should ever want to get a 'real' job."

Child Care: Lauren Kresge - "I am married to Brad and we have a son named Caleb (who is in love with Tanya's daughter, Julia!). My days are usually spent chasing a toddler and a great dane puppy around the house. So, to keep my sanity or rather reinforce my IN-sanity, I spend my spare time working with teenage girls at our church. And sometimes, when I feel like playing grown-up, I work as an Occupational Therapist. Overall, I just enjoy meeting new people and helping out anyway I can."

Writer: Amy Derby - "I am a former paralegal, and have been freelance writing full time since 2004.  When I am not writing, I'm usually rescuing wayward critters.  I live near Chicago with my pet rabbits, Ginsberg and Kerouac, and with my newly rescued frog Frederick."
