BCC Approves Grant Applications for Wildfire Prevention Projects
Commissioners approved two Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) grant applications to the Colorado State Forest Service. These grants would help to support the work of the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management-Fire Management Office (OEM-FMO) by building defensible spaces where county urban areas meet wooded areas.

Forest FireThe first application requests $40,000 in grant funding for a collaborative project between the OEM-FMO and the Mountain Resource Center to provide defensible fire space for low-income and/or disabled residents. The county would provide a $40,000 match with $25,000 coming from the salary of the fire management officer and $15,000 coming from in-kind volunteer hours from community residents.

The second application requests $21,000 in grant funding for a partnership between the OEM-FMO and the Community Park at Beaver Ranch near Conifer. With this grant, the FMO Seasonal Fire Crew would reduce wildfire fuel in a 21-acre project area. The county would provide a $21,000 match, with $13,000 coming from the salary of the fire management officer and $8,000 from in-kind volunteer hours from residents.

The OEM has submitted both grant applications and anticipates receiving approval from Colorado State Forest Service in spring 2011.

  • Document shredding
  • Car-seat safety inspections
  • Credit reports
  • Sign-ups for the consumer no-call list
  • Information about carbon monoxide-poisoning prevention, back-to-school safety, boating and water safety, and natural disaster preparedness
