99 Percent of Respondents to Seniors' Resource Center Survey Rate Services as 'Excellent' or 'Good'
Of the nearly 980 clients from Jefferson County who receive services and responded to the Seniors' Resource Center's 2009 Client Satisfaction Survey, 99 percent rated the center's overall quality of services as "excellent" or "good."

Seniors Resource CenterRepresentatives from the Seniors' Resource Center (SRC) presented the survey results to commissioners at the staff briefing. The county contracts with the Seniors' Resource Center to provide services to Jeffco's senior population. The center provides a variety of services, including transportation, adult-day and respite services, mental health outreach, in-home care, job training and volunteer opportunities, to people in 10 counties. In 2009, the center provided direct services to 18,655 people, including about 4,530 people at the SRC-Evergreen, or the "Yellow House" at 5120 Highway 73 in Evergreen.

Highlights from the survey include:
  • Ninety-three percent of residents from Jefferson County said they participate in adult day services at SRC at least once a week.
  • Respondents rated SRC highly in care management services, such as providing counseling, emergency financial assistance or arrangements for specific services.
  • Ninety-two percent said that care management services were important to their quality of life.
  • SRC also helps seniors find volunteer opportunities within the center or with other organizations. Seventy-one percent said they volunteer one to 15 hours a month.

In July, SRC will celebrate the start of construction on a new adult day and respite services building at an 80-year-old former elementary school at 3227 Chase Street in Wheat Ridge. The center has raised 96 percent of its capital campaign goal of $8.7 million. To learn more about how you can help, visit the Seniors' Resource Center website at www.srcaging.org.

BCC Approves Contract for Bowles/Wadsworth Intersection Project
ConstructionCommissioners approved a $325,000 contract with Muller Engineering Company, Inc., of Lakewood, to provide design support and construction inspection services during construction of the Bowles Avenue/Wadsworth Boulevard intersection project. The project includes a new southbound through-lane on Wadsworth Boulevard, new acceleration and deceleration lanes for both Bowles and Wadsworth, a new sidewalk on the west side of Wadsworth between Parkhill Avenue and Bowles and a new pedestrian bridge over Wadsworth. Some funding for the project may come from federal sources, so the county needs to ensure it meets certain federal and state standards, procedures and rules. Other funding is coming from the Southeast Jefferson County Half Cent Sales Tax. For more information on the project, visit the Transportation & Engineering website

BCC Approves Three Road & Bridge Contracts
Commissioners approved three contracts for road maintenance and overlay, totaling nearly $1.1 million. One contract is with Alpha Milling Co., Inc., of Denver, for $495,000 to provide asphalt milling services on unincorporated county roads. Milling corrects poor grades and drainage and helps match new overlay with existing concrete. The second contract is also for $495,000 and is with Vance Brothers, Inc., of Denver, to provide paving fabric on some roads. Workers place fabric between existing pavement and asphalt overlay to form a barrier to water, reducing cracking on new asphalt. The third contract for $70,000 with Schultz Industries, Inc., of Golden, is to maintain medians on unincorporated Jeffco roads.
