Now that most of winter is behind us, many people start looking forward to warmer weather. With the change of seasons, people also start thinking about getting fit for the spring and summer months. By sharing some simple health tips, your company can have a positive impact on the health of its employees.

Exercise and healthy eating are the two most important components of getting fit and living a healthy life. We all know this, but how many of us actually engage in healthy living on a daily basis? The first step to living a healthy lifestyle is to get educated and make a plan.

To help your employees get started, we have provided you with two educational flyers, one on healthy eating and one on exercise. Click the links below to download and share these flyers with your employees.

    Tips on Living Heart Healthy

One of the best ways to start living a heart healthy lifestyle is to develop and adhere to an exercise schedule. Exercise builds up the body, reduces health risks, and most importantly strengthens the heart. In order to keep the heart healthy and functioning properly, it is necessary to participate in cardiovascular activities that will build and strengthen the heart. Some good activities are running, walking, dancing, bike riding and aerobics. It is recommended to exercise for at least thirty minutes each and every day to get the best healthy heart results.

Another step to living a heart healthy lifestyle is to maintain a healthy diet. Instead of snacking on potato chips, cookies and cakes, try some fruits and vegetables to improve heart health. Also, the way you cook your food is very important. Instead of frying, baking or grilling foods will allow you to enjoy them in a healthier fashion. Adding more whole grains to your diet will also help improve your heart health. Whole grains are good sources of fiber and other nutrients that play a role in regulating blood pressure and heart health.

Reducing the amount of stress in your life is also a major step in living a heart healthy lifestyle. Stress has a negative impact on the body, especially the heart. Outside pressures can put you on edge and cause tension in the body which makes the heart have to work harder to supply the body with oxygenated blood. This increased pressure on the heart raises the heartbeat and increases blood pressure, which can cause hypertension, and damage the heart over long periods of time. Finding healthy ways to deal with stress will alleviate the negative impact it has on the heart. Some recommended ways of coping with stress are yoga, meditation, deep breathing and taking up a hobby.
