Sometimes we lose track of why we do what we do. Being a small business, and mostly home-based, with the internet as our main point of connection, we forget how important it is that individual, real people are out there looking at what we're doing, and actually reading it, and even caring about what we say.
Then we get a phone call, like the one that Dan received this morning from Karen. And we remember.
Of course it's always nice when there is an exchange of resources involved, such as money for a product or a service that we provide, as that's how we stay in business. But it's not the only way that we stay in business. In order to keep doing what we do we need heart and passion and energy and conviction. Conviction that there is real value in sharing the creative life. Conviction that our tools and books and space for retreats and classes allow people to access their own creativity and their own potential for wholeness.
When we quit believing that, it will be time to stop what we're doing and go work for someone else. Or maybe retire.
I do believe that we're each a potential beacon of light for the other. Sometimes we're primarily the sender and at other times the receiver, but mostly we're both at the same time. It's a fact that roles change; people change; needs change. But, just often enough, like the revolving circles in my sculpture pictured at the top of this newsletter, our circles intersect, and something important is shared or exchanged or witnessed. When that happens, we need to pay attention, for each of those moments is timeless. And it's those timeless moments that make all this worth while.
As I was writing this I remembered that just last month I featured a lovely email from a reader who was responding to something that I wrote. Hmmmm, maybe the reason for my slight melancholy at present is that I forget too quickly the good that we have and the good that we do and the good that you all share with us.
So, in case I haven't said it lately, a big THANK YOU to all of you for being there. None of us create in a vacuum. We appreciate your business, your friendship, your inspiration, and your witnessing to - and feedback about - the creative life.
