Campaign TIP of the Week
Open Designation

As a service to donors, United Way of Olmsted County has been an Open Designation United Way since 1992.

What does this mean? LGB Research Institute is a nonprofit organization that conducts research in the area of community investment and describes our type of campaign as "a truly 'open' campaign, in which any tax-exempt non-profit is eligible...." While other "expanded" or "employee choice" campaigns restrict your donation to a handful of member charities, the United Way of Olmsted County workplace campaign does not. As a donor you are free to designate your gift to the non-profit organizations of your choice.

First Alliance Tournament / BBQ
for United Way

Every year First Alliance Credit Union has one big event with many smaller activities that make up our United Way Campaign. This year's big event was a Bean Bag Tournament/BBQ at our south branch location, which happened on September 20th. It was a huge success and very fun!

Thanks Dianne Adams and Kelly Kuisle for leading your team as First Alliance Credit Union's Employee Campaign Coordinators!

Dave and Jeremiah took first at the tournament! It was a great time and it was decided this should be an annual event at First Alliance Credit Union!

We had thirteen teams compete in the bean bag tournament with double elimination! It took about three hours to finish.

We had around 40 people who enjoyed the BBQ!

This event was also a great opportunity to get together and catch up with co-workers and see their families!

Boys & Girls Club of Rochester on Location

In the summer of 2012 while the central Boys and Girls Club building closed for remodeling and construction, satellite club sites were set up in the community. This offered an opportunity to host a club location at the Oak Terrace and Parkside Mobile Home Park in southeast Rochester.

A conversation between Executive Director Jodi Millerbernd and the principal of Longfellow Elementary School, across from Oak Terrace on Marion Road, sparked the idea of a satellite club at this location. "Around 80 kids get off the bus there each day," principal Kris Davis told her. Jodi saw the need was great - read more.
