8 Students Complete FastTrac Welding Program
The United Way Job Training Collaboration celebrated another success on August 1, 2012 when 8 students completed the FastTrac Welding Program and was recognized for their achievement. Since graduation, five graduates were offered full time jobs with benefits!
Family, friends and community partners joined the graduates to share in their accomplishment. Featured speakers included Abbey Hellickson of RCTC, Nicole Wibstad, Hawthorne Education Center, Nicole Sandberg, Co-Chair of the United Way Financial Stability Solutions Team and April Sutor, United Way Senior VP of Community Impact.
The FastTrac Welding course is a United Way funded program to provide job skills and training through community partnerships in order that these individuals completing the training acquire family-sustaining employment. Following the ceremony, all welding graduates participated in employer interviews conducted by McNeilus Truck, Briese Ironworks, Con-Tech Manufacturing, and Crenlo. We are happy to report that five of the original eight graduates began new full time jobs with benefits on the following Monday, August 6th. A career navigator, also funded by United Way, will continue to work with the other graduates in pursuing full time positions. Based on the manufacturing need in our area, another welding class will begin in September

Running Start for School
| |
Are you or your organization interested in helping us achieve our goal of supplying over 7,000 students with school supplies? You're in the right place! Here are some ways you can help with this year's Running Start for School initiative.
GIVE
At United Way, we've learned how to make every dollar effectively impact peoples' lives. We purchase items in bulk towards the end of the collection period to fill the gaps between donated items and what will be distributed to the children. For $45, we can supply one child with everything they'll need - including a backpack.
ADVOCATE
EVERYONE: Spread the word about Running Start! Like the United Way of Olmsted County Facebook page and keep yourself informed on what's going on with Running Start for School. Also, feel free to download and print our promotional posters explaining Running Start and listing our most needed school supplies.
VOLUNTEER
We need lots of volunteers to help with organizing donated school supplies, assembling the school supply kits, and assisting with the distribution days as a greeter, escort, interpreter, etc. Click here to be directed to our volunteer page.
