Gumbo Cook-Off for United Way

 

It was a diversity pot-vs-pot cook-off as External Relations Managers Jeff Larson and Rory Lenton put their Gumbo recipes to the taste test in a Gumbo Cook-off for United Way at the Minnesota Energy Resource Center Rochester office.

Employees, contractors and media enjoyed the unique flavors and voted for the one they liked the best. Prior to the event there was a quite a bit of trash talking from the New Orleans native Lenton and the competitor with Swedish heritage Larson. Read More

Along with the weather outside, the 2011 United Way Campaign is heating up!

Did you know ...85% of a child's brain develops by age three.

  

 Wild About Reading 2011

 

That's why...Over 6,000 local preschool-aged children receive a free book in the mail each month through the Imagination Library program. 

 

Which means...Studies show children who are read to one hour per day during their preschool years enter school with a 10,000+ vocabulary. In comparison, children read to only 30 hours during their first five years enter school with a vocabulary fewer than 4,000 words.

Q:  I don't live in Rochester, why should I give to United Way?

 

A:  If you live in Olmsted County, you can be certain that people from your community are utilizing United Way supported programs and services. They may be a friend, neighbor or co-worker. If you live outside of Olmsted County, you can choose to give to your local United Way, or the non-profit organization of your choice.
