Channel One Food Bank and Food Shelf - OUTSTANDING Campaign Results...

Channel One Special Event

Pie Your Director" special event. Employees had a chance to buy pies to throw at our leadership team.

Channel One was the first "local" organization or business to complete their 2011 United Way campaign; with a fantastic 16% increase over their 2010 campaign results! Congratulations and well done to their entire team! Our thanks to Jennah Vold and Maggie Parham, Channel One's Employee Campaign Coordinators for attending this year's ECC training and for hosting a Speaker's Bureau presentation, given by Marlene Jehnke of Child Care Resource and Referral.

Early Childhood Education

Did you know ...only 52% of children in Olmsted County start Kindergarten with the developmental milestones needed to be ready to successful learn?

Which means...research shows that children who get a good start with early education opportunities attain a higher level of education, income, socio-economic status and better health. An economic analysis by the Federal Reserve Bank estimated that every $1 invested in early childhood education generates up to $17 in benefits to society at large.

 School Preparedness Program

That's why...United Way works with a collaboration of early childhood education experts who know how to get children prepared for school success at a rate of 85%.

THANKS to the 60 Employee Campaign Coordinators that attended the ECC Workshop - 1 more workshop available, register below!!

Over the summer, 60 ECCs from 47 different businesses and organizations participated in one of six Employee Campaign Coordinator Workshops.

Scotty Idol (aka Scott Heck)

The workshop started with a "Mock" campaign rally with Scotty Idol (aka Scott Heck, 2011 Campaign Chair, RBC Wealth Management) leading the charge to support the United Way Campaign.

Included in the mock rally was the ECC from Platinum Records, Karen Cross (aka Karen Cross, Post Bulletin). The rally included the 2011 Campaign video and a speakers bureau presentation.

After the rally, participants played, The Game of Life:  Living in Poverty. This game is similar to monopoly but focuses on individuals and families that are carefully balancing a life at minimum wage in Olmsted County. United Way Funded Program partners helped as a resource for any questions that come up while we are playing the game. One fact we learned is that subsidized child care has not been raised in eight year according to Barb Mathias, Director of Good News Children's Center.

The workshop concluded with break out sessions that included:  Campaign 101, How to Run an Energetic Campaign, Campaign Resources, Community Engagement, Specialed Campaigns and eCampaigns.

GIVE.

We all have a stake in creating a prosperous, healthy community.

For a building to be stable for the long term, it needs a solid foundation. The same is true in life, and the building blocks for a solid life are a good education, financial stability and good health.

Education:  Ensuring children are ready to learn and motivated to stay in school and graduate means contributing citizens for tomorrow.

Income:  Many are walking a financial tightrope, as a community we can broaden the tightrope into a path making it less likely people will fall.

Health:  Access to healthcare helps strengthen our entire community.

It takes an entire community to make a difference and we need
YOU!
