Greetings from the State Coordinator
Greetings!
Ok, here it is: the busiest time of the History Day year. You are all undoubtedly putting your projects together, looking for those last few critical primary sources, and cursing the inventor of the annotated bibliography.
We are also in the midst of registration season for regional levels of competition. Many deadlines are this Friday, so please make sure to get your entries in on time! If you have questions about your regional contest, please call your regional coordinator. I can help with general contest questions, but specific questions about the contest day and procedures are best answered by your local coordinator. You can find his or her contact information here: http://www.nyshistoryday.org/RegionalInfo.htm.
Good luck, and we will see you in March!
Best wishes,

Rockland County Students Perform for Members of Congress
Clarkstown Senior High School North students Gabi Im and Lauren Lee were invited by National History Day to perform their 2009 Junior Group Performance at a Congressional Breakfast in January.
The breakfast, which has held in the Rayburn House Office building in Washington D.C. on January 26, introduced members of Congress to the National History Day program and discussed the importance of history education and role NHD plays in fostering student learning. Attending Senators, Congressmen and women, and key staff members heard from Dr. Libby O'Connell, Senior Vice President and Chief Historian at The History Channel (pictured with Gabi and Lauren, above). In addition, students from New York, Maryland, and Arkansas discussed the benefits of participating in the program and shared their 2009 projects.
Gabi and Lauren shared their 2009 performance, entitled "Douglas MacArthur: Duty and Honor" with the group of just over fifty attendees. They created the project last year as eighth grade students at Felix V. Festa Middle School in West Nyack. Gabi and Lauren placed 6th in the nation and won the Special Award for World War II history at the National History Day competition last year.
Congratulations, Gabi and Lauren! | |
