May 2009
Volume 3 - Issue 9
Greetings from the State Coordinator

Greetings!

We did it!  We made it through another History Day year with flying colors.

New York State History Day was held on Friday, May 1, and 425 students from the across the state competed for a chance to represent New York at the National History Day competition in Maryland in June.  Check out the winners list below.

Whether or not you or your students won a medal or a special award, I hope you know what an absolute honor it was to showcase your scholarship and hard work again this year at NYSHA, The Farmers' Museum, the Otesaga Resort and Hotel, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.  Thank you for teaching me, the judges, and the general public about your amazing individuals in history.

I hope to see you all next year at regional contests around the state.  The annual theme is Innovation in History: Impact and Change. In case you are already thinking about your topics for next year, you can download the theme sheet right now from our web site: http://ny.nhd.org/Theme.htm

Congratulations again to all History Day participants.  Have a great month of history!

Best wishes,
Tobi Voigt
