Looking at Addictions and Compulsive Behaviors Through a Non-Pathological Lens

I agree with Carl Jung that all addictions are extreme and not only keep us out of balance and harmony but create immense amounts of suffering to the user and the people in their lives.

Since working with addictions from the very beginning of my career (1980s,) I have questioned and sought for deeper explanations about "addictions" and  compulsive behaviors. My curious mind has questioned "abstinence for all," where does moderation work/not work, who can and cannot manage altered states? How do we teach harm reduction and to whom?

The traditional disease model explaining addiction has dominated our culture. It is a good one that has helped millions of people, but it is not the only one. Many people find solace in knowing there are other ways to look at and even treat addictions and compulsive behaviors.
Have you ever wanted to view addiction from a different lens? Have you also questioned where and how the body and the heart have its place in the healing process?

How might another perspective open our minds and hearts and EASE THE PAIN in the human experience we call "addiction?"
