Most of us love summertime. But does it sometimes feel that you don't ge t to actually enjoy it the way you envisioned?
For those of us who live here on Cape Cod, you know how we are boldly reminded "IT'S SUMMER!" We watch the roads, the waters, the theatres and restaurants fill up with people who have journeyed from far and wide to come HERE, to enjoy this oceanside splendor.
But what about you? Are you going to be enjoying the sand, the surf, the warm breeze at your favorite spot this week? Are you getting ready for your own favorite summer pastime? Have you committed to spending the same time on your own summer wellness/fun as you do for your house-guests, your children or grandchildren?
It is only June and already I have heard people tell me that they are so booked up with summer visitors or plans that they need to turn down invitations for themselves. Folks express their concern that they might not get to the beach, the ball game or that hammock out back this year... again.
What is it that holds us back from freeing ourselves from just enough of those commitments so that we can enjoy that sunset we're craving? Is it a matter of simple time management? Communication skills? Or are we so conditioned to please others that we don't leave as much room that's needed for our own care and well-being?
You don't have to hold your breath until summer is over. There are ways you can enjoy your summer to its fullest right now. A few simple techniques to help you learn to set boundaries, stop over-planning, breathe more deeply and know your own limits can be all that is needed to assure your summer is what you want AND NEED it to be.
I am not sure what context personal development legend and author Jim Rohn meant for the following quote, but i think it applies,
"Sometimes you need to stay in touch but be out of reach."
