Pain does insist on being attended to, doesn't it? It gnaws, it distracts, it can diminish the quality of our life.
What happens when we are in physical or emotional pain? What do our thoughts have to do with pain? How does our our breathing help?
How can a few simple Eastern philosophies and techniques enhance our Western medical advances?
Your answers to these questions can help you manage your pain more effectively.
When you want to STOP THE PAIN, what is your 1st line of defense--pills? go for a walk? take a stretch? practice yoga? have a cocktail? try a breathing exercise? meditate? call a health provider? bring out the crystals? the Ben Gay? pray? try to ignore? The choices are endless.
The Holistic, Mind-Body approach honors your choices and helps you find what is the best for you- ALL OF YOU - your history, your present treatment, the kind of support you have, your values and beliefs, your own understanding and experience of pain, and much more.
The goal is to stop the pain, or decrease the pain, with the least amount of invasiveness (medication, surgery, etc.)
Pain is viewed in the context of your life, honoring all your thoughts and feelings, as well as the physical body. This helps deepen your inner wisdom and enhances your relationship to your self. This in turn, helps you manage your pain more attentively, directly, and sensitively.
The point is to add simple tools that you can incorporate into your life. This Increases your self-care and decreases your dependence on providers or medications. This is huge asset in a life where pain is inevitable.
The mind-body approach of Yoga Therapy is focused on providing individually tailored service within a short-term frame work, making sure you have the tools and techniques that can work for you in the short and long run.
For your unique pain: `Personalized yoga `Targeted breathing exercises `Relaxation and meditation skills
`A counselling component, integrating your thoughts/beliefs and feelings `Helps you deepen the ability you have to care more for yourself
Your tool box grows!
Your self-care grows. This is the most important tool a provider can teach.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to make an appointment. My late Spring/Summer hours are M-F with some evening appointments.
May your journey through life be as pain-free as possible and when pain calls, may you know what to do.
