Pose of the Season: Sun Breath

Can you Imagine your arms are the rays of the sun?

Hello everyone, welcome to early
Spring 2007. I hope that you are well and prepared for the changes that are bound to come.
Spring's Pose of the Season is known as Sun Breath. I hope you take a moment to enjoy.

Much simpler than the famed Sun Salutations, Sun Breath can be done right from where you are, right now!!

While sitting or standing in the sun's direction...take a moment to breathe the real (or imagined) SUN.

Inhale as you raise your arms out from your sides and up over your head. As you do so, tilt your eyes and head up just a little. Take a look at what you see.

As you bring your arms back to the starting position, exhale (and tilt your head and eyes toward what is in front of you.)

It is that simple. Repeat, as needed. And enjoy. Yoga really is that simple.

A modification for those who can not move their arms or head offers a tilt of the eyes up and down accordingly, while taking the same kind of breath, with the same kind of awareness of what is around you.

Please do not do any part of this posture if you have been advised against moving or breathing in any way this suggests.

Eventually you may be able to have one complete inhalation on the way up and one complete exhalation on the way down. Don't worry if you do not have "that much breath." If practiced, you probably will...

Sun Breath not only increases your energy by circulating your blood/oxygen, it stretches the arms, shoulders, and opens your chest/heart area. It is also a plus for the lungs...simply by breathing in a more complete/attentive way. And it is that simple...

May Sun Breath fill your Spring with light and ease.
