Lebanon is a country built on dichotomies. It is a blend of cultures, poised at the intersection between the Western and Arab worlds. Born in Beirut and living in the West, photographer Rania Matar is especially attuned to those dichotomies. Here she honors the lives of the women and children of Lebanon in evocative black-and-white photographs.

Deborah Willis (Reflections in Black), a MacArthur fellow and chair of New York University's photography department, curates a collection of iconic portraits and snapshots by anonymous photographers in a history of beauty that merges gender, race, family, class. Registration is $20.00 and can be purchased here.
This 4-hour seminar led by photographer, Calumet staff member, and lighting expert, Ron Herard, will feature multiple work stations of 1, 2 and 3 strobe set ups. Learn to master hand held metering techniques to take the guesswork out of each shot and get consistent results. Models will be utilized to demonstrate posing techniques. Attendees may bring their gear to practice [DSLR, 24-105mm lens, 4 GB+ memory card and fully charged batteries is recommended], or simply observe the demonstrations. Full understanding of photographic terms such as aperture, shutter speed, metering is required.
